Hmmm…not bad

The prompt was “black and white cat gnawing roast beef.” It looks amazingly like our actual cat, except our actual cat doesn’t eat people food of any kind (nor even Dreamies).
We did have roast beef for Sunday roast this week. It was very expensive and terrible. I’ve made the remnants into beef stew, though, which is excellent.
Did our last bits of shopping today, picked up the turkey (£93.89 if you please), ready to rock and roll.

93 pounds?? YGTBSM! That’s like $125 in our money. At that price I’d expect it to be served in luxury by white-coated waiters.

I cannot imagine how I’d cook a 94 pound turkey. The biggest one I’ve ever done was only 18 pounds. 🙄🦃🤭

Sweasel:
While I read and enjoy your site, I admit that my primary interests are more political and military. Based on those and my observations of what is happening in britain [free speech restrictions, the coming abolishment of jury trials, the delay of local council elections and the recent open discussion of delaying the 2029 elections] I would like to suggest that you and Uncle Badger consider maybe preparing an alternative of being ready to come back to the US, if necessary in a hurry if things get too weird there. We have our problems, sure, but they have more practice at autocracy.

I don’t please. Turkeys hereabouts sell for $0.99 per lb (Jennie-O frozen; $1.99 for Butterball; $2.49 for Jennie-O fresh). An 18 lb turkey (far more than I and my sister could eat) would be less than $18. Even Whole Foods Organic Turkey is $3.49 ($2.99 with Prime). And she bought a 12 lb turkey on some kind of discount for $5. Really. Whereas…
“Tesco Finest East Anglian Gold Free Range Whole Turkey” is £17 per kg (£13 with “Clubcard); that’s $7.72 per lb (or $5.90).
Outrageous.

Maybe turkeys over there will get cheaper when they figure out how to keep the birds from farting.

The turkey came with spats, a cane, and a monocle.

Rich Rostrun: Funny you should mention Tesco turkeys. For several years we’ve bought our Christmas beast from a farm which rears them locally. As the prices had crept higher and higher, last year we bought the best turkey we could find in Tesco. It saved us a fair amount of money but tasted of cotton wool. This year we’ve returned to the local ones but I’m making no promises about next year – that really was an eye watering price.

Thanks for thinking of us, Subotai Bahadur, but we’re far too old for an emergency trans-Atlantic move.
We’re as aghast as you are at the politics here, but little of it reaches us. Most of the problems are urban – with the exception of the fact our local elections have been cancelled for the second year.

Merry Christmas to all, and may we keep it in our hearts all the year long.
