What a fabulous lazy day at casa de armybrat! I slept in late, hubby slept in later. Eggs Benedict and Bloody Marys. Christmas music. Phone calls from family and friends. Nap. Bottle of proseco. Prime rib, asparagus and potatoes au gratin, horseradish sauce and a fabulous Sangiovese. Shame I have to get up and go to work in the morning.

So I managed to spend two whole days with the fam, and its back to Alaska in the morning.

I got another house, and an SUV. -Not bad.

I ate enough to kill a pony. But I didn’t get any socks, which might be the saddest thing ever.

Pretty laid back compared to last year (Norwegians know how to celebrate Christmas!), just three of us, but dinner was great and we three are happy campers.

Merry Christmas!

I wanted socks. I love socks. But it was a sock drought.

I blame Bush & Global Warming.

Edited to add: You’re not old. I’ve been in love with good, wool socks since I was in my 20s. Okay, 20 is pretty old if you’re a mustelid.

Happy Christmas Stoat and Badger! Yes on the socks here. Also, a great hat and a 1905 Elgin.

I got a Samsung Galaxy S4, cashmere socks and some black lacy bits.

We slept in too…went for a walk with the doggies and jumped back into bed with pecan pancakes, chicken sausages, strawberries and Prosecco.

I made a spicy puttanesca with prawns washed down with a central coast Pinot for dins.

The hubby is sacked out and the house is quiet. I have some dark chocolate and the rest of the Pinot at hand; it’s Frostivus Eve!

Hmm… must be a socks kinda year! Sounds like a Daily Mail story: ‘Couples turn to socks as end of world approaches”.

The truth, as we minions know, is that good socks are always welcome.

Happy Boxing Day!

Santa brought me a Mason Jar Cocktail Shaker
http://www.masonshaker.com/products/the-mason-shaker
And a nice lock-blade Buck Knife.

He knows his audience! Next year there’ll be a martini waiting by the fireplace for him – screw cookies and milk! He’d better not make any sudden noises though!

Any of you out there knitting those Christmas socks?
I’m thinking of picking up knitting needles again (after fifty years), and I’m wondering if hand-knitted socks are comfortable to wear.

I got this spiffy new tablet thingy. What am I supposed to do with it? Also cooked a Prime rib that was awesome. Also ate so much I know what being pregnant feels like. Also need a plumber today.

I hinted for socks but didn’t get any. I suppose sending a link to the site with the exact model and size was too subtle.

Glad you woodland creatures enjoyed your holiday.

Got all y’all beat – I got a new fry pan. 12″, high wall Calphalon. With lid. Santa apparently forgot the B.A.R. I asked for. Maybe next year.

Got 24 hours with 3 of the 4 grown kids [one lives several states away]. Our traditional Christmas feast of prime rib and a bloody great pot of cioppino. Got a top of the line hand grain mill, some cookbooks I have been after [including completing my set of Alton Brown’s Good Eats books], water purifying filters, and yes good wool socks.

And got to give a bunch of things that the family wanted.

As I suspect that by next December, what we regard as a “normal” consumer-driven Christmas will be beyond our reach; but I am well pleased with this celebration to hold in memory.

@Subotai Bahadur—by next Christmas, wool socks may be all that we can afford.

Man. I could almost kill for a huge bowl of good cioppino and a plate of au gratin potatoes. And socks are a good gift anytime.
