Jack the Disemboweler

As requested, cat picture not politics. Hm. That would be a pretty good t-shirt — “no politics, cat pictures.”

I popped Jack up on the desk and took this snapshot a half an hour ago. Sixteen months old and he’s still got a kitten face. And he’s a little squirt. I guess that’s going to be permanent.

What he lacks in stature he makes up in savagery. Not to us — he’s got the friendly ginger kitty personality — but to the local fauna. Mostly rodents, I’m happy to say. I don’t mind that so much.

But I found a pigeon on the doorstep two nights ago. He’d executed it by blood eagle, so we think he’s got some Viking in him.

Good weekend, folks!

Sounds like a cat!

It’s a three day weekend here, and lawdy do I need it. I’m planning many hours in front of my sewing machine.

Link to the Imgur version, which is big and in color.

Hey, they pay for their own bandwidth.

Lovely image. How do you capture such detail with such sharpness?

Oh, my lord — there IS a Noona! I thought you were Nina-with-a-typo! Which is why I didn’t mention you by name.

Skandia: very, very bright desk light and catching him still with a steady camera. Also, the Nikon D40 is an excellent, excellent camera, especially considering it was an entry-level DSLR. And mine is, like, ten years old.

Stoaty,
thanks for that. Looking at online photos you sometimes see an image that just ‘pops’, and this is one of them.

Oh, also — if this means anything to you — I shoot RAW and work with that image. I always tweak, at least a little.

Raw, ya. I started doing that when I read that processing jpeg images introduces ‘artifacts’ that multiply with each edit and save and reload.

I have a Nikon D90 that I really like, and process the images in Nikon software unless there is something I can’t figure out that Gimp will do. I have a terrible time with Gimp.

I bought a telephoto lens on Amazon at what I thought was a good price, but the thing has very limited depth of focus and you have to stop the lens down to get detail. Which is not necessarily a bad thing but the camera operator has to be paying attention, and not just pushing the shutter release.

I need to work with the camera more because I forget stuff, and I’ve dropped the camera twice. Not a recommended practice.

If Jack doesn’t get ’em, a hawk probably will…only to fly with the corpse to the nearest tall tree to pluck out the innards and drop them on your lawn furniture, or car.

When it comes down to maintaining alertness to potential predators, pigeons FAIL.

The prize dick has arrived! Yay!

The standard lens that comes with, dissent555. Actually, I busted mine last Summer (dropped it on a brick pavement), so I stole Uncle B’s.

A handsome devil he is. As for the kitten face, a lot of my cats, both male and female, had kitten faces even as adults. The current black beast, Wolf, looks like a miniature panther. But the panda-coat Siberian cat has a very sweet expression, as he should — it’s required by his breed standard, believe it or not.
