It begins…

We have a holly tree in the back garden, but most years the birds have had alllll the berries before Christmas. Not this year, though — Uncle B. nipped out and got a little vaseful for my library (which I insist on pronouncing libr-r-r-r-r-y).

I’m declaring Christmas officially ON starting….NOW!

Those pale things in the upper left corner are my panties drying on the rack. Merry Christmas!

p.s. Happy Solstice — it just gets brighter from here!

If I remember my (well, not my) women’s panties, I believe you mean upper left hand corner…

But that IS a lovely vase with the holly in it. And a REAL library… wow! How British!

Um, isn’t it your STOCKINGS you’re supposed to hang by the fire with care? 😉

Sigh – I’m just not ready for these modern times. It used to be that you could tempt Santa into leaving you an extra nice present with just the promise of some Cookies. Now apparently the modern way is to promise some Nookie instead.

Oops! Fixed. Thank you, anonymous proofreader.

Also, in my defence, those larger objects are thermal undershirts.

Oh how pretty—and a darling little pitcher. But wow—those are some big holly leaves. They look 5 or 6 inches long. And the berries look like marbles. Around here the holly leaves are maybe 2½ to 3 inches long.

Undies roasting on an open fire…

My undies, bras, etc are usually hanging on a rack in our bathroom drying. My husband once asked me why I bothered with a dryer. I replied “for sheets and towels.” He doesn’t get it, even after almost 40 years.

My Christmas doesn’t start for another 3 days. I’m working this weekend and Christmas Eve. But I’m on the countdown to my month on the beach or in the bar (whichever happens first) vacation.

@Deborah HH – There are more than 400 different varieties of holly (Ilex) and the most common European plant (I. Aquifolium) differs from the American (I. opaca). To my eye, all hollies are lovely!…especially Stoatie’s holly arrangement!

Thank you, Uncle Al. You provided the names so I looked them up. You are right—they are all lovely. I forgot about possumhaw holly. It is common here in south central Texas.

We would see Weazie’s undies dryin in the fire light.

But thanks to Christmas Holly, they’re kinda out of sight.

Now, I’m going to the Pub, gonna buy a jug of gin

Okay – I’ve obviously played waaaaaay to many video games where there are visual clues and now I have to ask.

WHAT is that holly vase sitting on? The large hole and the 4 smaller holes on the right of the ‘table’.

Is that an old chair seat? A defunct bar stool that used to have a back?

Left – left of the table.
I’ll pretend I was standing at the book case looking out of the screen.
And I’ll pretend it was early Christmas Eve punch that had something to do with it all.
