Welp, I don’t expect this one to generate much commentary

“No doctor can ever lose sight of the fact that the mind of woman is always threatened with danger from the reverberations of her physiological emergencies,” Wright wrote, referring to periods.

The lady is Mary Putnam Jacobi, one of the very few women practicing medicine in the 1870s. She argued that wammen brains wouldn’t explode if exercised during menstruation. This was a thing doctors believed.

I point you to this article about it in the Atlantic.

It isn’t so much that the topic is interesting, I just found it hilarious reading Aunt Flo described in the windy, pompous language of late 19th Century doctor science.

The entire concept is so utterly vapid.
Did they not wonder how women managed to survive through 12 weeks (or so) of the year at various times without ‘men’ to be there to think for them?

The idiots (many of them allegedly doctors) who went off to conquer the world for the empire should have noticed when they returned home after some time gone their wives hadn’t burned down the family mansion or eaten the children don’t you think?
And possibly might they have concluded that women still managed to successfully function when their time came every month?

What rubbish.

Proving the “scientific experts” of our past were as stupid as the ones we find in the present day.

“…the reverberations of her physiological emergencies” — love that phrase, wish I’d learned it sooner. I also love “surfing the crimson wave,” from “Clueless.”

My daughters college age contemporaries have started calling it Shark Week.

I don’t think I want to know what “jumping the shark” is now being used to refer to…

My mother, now 87, said that in her day, if someone inquired about whether someone who was experiencing “their monthly inconvenience” were available to go out to the beach or whatnot, the response was “no, she fell off the roof”. I still don’t get it.

Shark Week!
bwahahahahahahahahahahaha

15 points for Lester-dor!

This demonstrates why I doubt the ‘experts’ about global warming, or a plethora of the other agenda driven sciences. People are happy, nay eager, to accept pieces of paper from institutions of higher learning as certification of expertise. So long as the ‘expert’ has learned to properly toe the currently favored mythic policy line.

The earth IS flat you know, learned men of science have proven it. We’re out of oil, and the glaciers, will be here momentarily.

I am reminded of the Wizard of Oz giving Scarecrow his degree…

Wizard: Back where I come from we have universities – seats of great learning – where men go to become great thinkers. And when they come out, they think deep thoughts, and with no more brains than you have.
But – they have one thing you haven’t got – a diploma!

Therefore, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Universitatum Committeeatum E Pluribus Unum,
I hereby confer upon you the honorary degree of Th.D.

Scarecrow: Th.D.?

Wizard: Yeah – that – that’s Dr. of Thinkology
