Urg.

I ate half an underripe avocado at lunch and it has given me a belly ache. Meh.

Or maybe I just don’t do avocado. They do sometimes bother me. According to the Internet (of course I looked it up), I could have latex-fruit syndrome, which isn’t about eating fruit made of latex. Apparently, 40% of people with a latex allergy are also allergic to avocados.

Am I allergic to latex? I don’t think so, but I may be allergic to Brazil nuts, which are also part of the syndrome. I blowed up after eating them once. As I don’t like Brazil nuts, I haven’t tried the experiment since.

That same site says the best part of an avocado are the peels and seeds, so they crazy.

I nicked that picture from the Wikimedia Commons, which says I must attribute it (Liz West), link to the license (the Wikimedia page for it?) and say if I altered it. Yes I did. I made it black and white and rotated it.

Probably would have been easier to go into the kitchen and take a snapshot of the other half.

not so much for a few year, but I found my reactions to be seasonal with regard to that sort of thing.

Banana, strawberry, avocado. Made my throat scratch from the inside out you know, bad business. It’s much lessened since I stopped making (and then consuming) home made yeast breads.

You might have the delightfully named Oral Allergy Syndrome.

I am allergic to latex. Bananas, which have a VERY high cross reactivity with latex, make my mouth burn. My allergist looked at me many years ago when I asked him about avocados and he said “you already have anaphylaxis with fish and shellfish. How many times do you want to push the envelope.” Haven’t touched avocado since.

Oh, thanks, Ben. I already have a problem with shellfish and x-ray dye. Then I looked up your link. Bah.

Armybrat — I Had problems with bananas and strawberries when I was a kid, but it wasn’t all the time. Then one day it didn’t come back.
Used to handle the shellfish problem by taking a couple of Benadryls before going out for shrimp and crab legs, but in the middle ’90s they breached my Benadryl barrier so no more shellfish. And I live in southeast Georgia.
But yeah, better to not push the envelope. No problem with avocados, though.

@Ben – cool! Thank you.

Wow, look at the cross connections!
Guess I’ve been lucky that my symptoms are pretty minor and never amount to anything other than annoyance.

Speaking of allergies, I see the Royal Family is developing a severe allergic reaction to the American Trailer Trash infusion.

Pity, so, do you suppose this mean the Cinderella fairy tale happily ever after ending is more often fictional than not?
