Day 11: cruel

The pecking order is real, y’all. And the dominant chicken always rears up and pecks down at her subordinate, thusly.

Day 10: flowing

That there is a Poland cockerel. Or a Polish rooster. Same thing, different languages. I want one of these beasties in the worst way.

I bought six ‘fertilized’ eggs this year that should have included at least one Poland and stuck ’em under a broody hen. All six: duds.

Day 8: Star

In meetings of various kinds all day. I hope I don’t need Tuesday the 9th in my diary.

Chickens, of course, can’t wish on a star. The moment you turn out the lights — bang! — down they go.

Day 7: Exhausted

Hope you’re having a lovely, restful Sunday. Watchin’ a little news, enjoyin’ a bit of salt.

Day 6: Drooling

Chickens don’t actually drool, I don’t think. They drink by gravity assist, though, which is potentially messy.

They sneeze. In fact, they’re prone to diseases of sneezing.

The experts will tell you they do not fart, on account of their digestive systems don’t work like that. I’m here to tell you that the experts are wrong.

A Saturday post? That’s unpossible!

Day 5: Chicken

Seriously. Day 5 is chicken.

I don’t even.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Day 4: Spell

Yeah, no. I wasn’t about to draw a chicken wizard.

I tried to register chikkens.com once. It’s took. So is chooks.com and all the variants I could think of.

Not entirely sure why I wanted it. Some people get addicted to owning domain names. I know I get a little thrill when I register a good one, like I’ve just planted my flag on the surface of the internet.

I have let most of my unused ones lapse, though (a couple by accident, to be honest).

Day 3: Roasted

Well, what else could it be?

This puts me in mind of the little frilly socks my mother would put over the ends of the leg bones on the Thanksgiving turkey, because…ew. Bones.

In stark contrast to here. Prepared poultry around these parts, they leave the lower legs on, snap off the feet and jam the stumps up the bird’s butt.

Barbarians.

Day 2: Tranquil

Geez, I’m rusty at this. I confess I had to do a little touch up in P’shop since I ran my stupid hand through the stupid wet ink. Twice.

Phun Phact: when a chicken closes her eyes, the lower lid comes up more than the upper lid comes down. It’s a little creepy looking until you get used to it.
