Good weekend, everybody!

It all started when I went to upgrade my WordPress installation. And then I went to upgrade some plugins. And, next thing you know, I was paddling around in my PHP trying to tidy some loose ends. And before you know it, I had brokened the blog.

Not so’s YOU’d notice, but I messed up some important stuff behind the scenes. I built the blog nine years ago by mashing buttons until it kinda did what I wanted. I had no effing idea what I was doing and, anyway, it was a very long time ago. Trying to fix anything is…well.

It’s stable now, but don’t be surprised if I keep tinkering over the weekend and break it some more.

Have a good’un. Two weeks to Christmas!

Now that *that* is out of the way…

Don’t you hate when you install updates and it breaks your system?…I find that happens more and more these days…I don’t automatically install updates on anything anymore.

Good luck on the recovery efforts.

I wish I could offer technical help, but .php is like voodoo to me.

Might have to rebuild the Turbo Encanabulator.

Did you try jiggling the handle? Turning it off and flinging feces at it?

@JC–No, remember, she built this NINE years ago!! She needs to rebuild the Turbo RETRO-encanabulator!!

I have no idea what those two icons above the comment box are supposed to do, or how they got there.

I fixed something in my PHP that was breaking plugins, so clearly that’s a plugin that was blocked, but I can’t seem to turn it off.

Or it’s something that came with WordPress 4.4.

The first icon fires off the spelling and syntax checker, the second one give you a nice big space to type in your pithy thoughts… nice for the elderly and vision-impaired, like meseff’ 🙂

Will thee checker find this? What about the chequer? Arre thier more arrers?

Riting frum the Untied states of Ameroica.

It’s found several spelling errors, but no “writing errors”.

Yeah, but it didn’t flag errors for me, even when I introduced some. And it doesn’t seem to save anything when you ‘save and return’. Lets see if ‘submit comment’ works.

I wonder if this is part of WordPress 4.4. They said this release was done particularly with different platforms in mind — phones and tablets, in other words.

I just wish they’d have more sensitivity to those of us with completely monochrome blogs.

It’s not just me, is it?

Are these 3000 Calais refugees from lord knows where coming to your area? Maybe, you should flee now?

Next county over is getting a load. West Sussex. I don’t know of any plans to rehome them near us, but we still Not Happy.

I was wondering the same thing as Ric Fan … glad you and UB are still living in an un-refugee’d condition. So far I’m safe, here, in Swamp-East Missouri.

I pushed the arrow thingy – hoping that something really interesting would happen. It didn’t. Sigh…..

Snufflepagus omnivore

Hmmm, spellcheck works for me, albeit in the most annoying way possible, multiple dialogs popping up. Yeesh.

But it did cleverly detect that “Poopilator” was spelt incorrectly, and offered multiple options, “edit”, “ignore” “ignore all” – but no suggestion from a dict lookup. Shoddy work, that.

And when I edit and hit ok in the new popup, it saves it to the text widget. Outstanding.

Sweas and UB,

Noting that what y’all call a county, we would consider to be a decent sized ranch; Refug-jihadi‘s being the next county over is not encouraging. Options if things get kinetic are fight or flight. Fighting is illegal and defending yourself is considered deeply immoral over there from what I understand. Therefore flight is the remaining option for most. That implies both short and long term destinations, and the logistics for reaching them them and living there. I hope that such arrangements are under consideration or in progress.

I want one of those micropigs in the worst way.

The attitude to self defense in this part of rural England is a bit more reasonable. The local police are not at all politically correct about Travelers (they’re the ones taht have to deal with them, after all). I suspect it would be similar with refugees. Though there’s a tendency to push them off to London rather than, you know, string them up on the spot.
