Thanks, can I get you something…?

Erm, I got an award. I guess users buy them for each other on Steam. I got a Mad Scientist. Thanks, Mysterious Stranger. Can I buy you one? I’ve got literally 40,000 unspent points on Steam.

Feel free to friend me. I don’t do the social aspects, but it gives me a little thrill of community when the popup tells me what y’all are playing at the moment.

Roger Whittaker has died. He was 87. Remember Roger Whittaker? I’ve tried and cannot find the exact Roger Whittaker infomercial that is seared into my brain, but this one is close. Except it’s missing the one that goes “there’s a boat down in the harbor…”

Good job advertising, I guess, because other than these late night ads, I never heard of the man.

There’s a ship lies rigged and ready in the harbor
Tomorrow for old England she sails
Far away from your land of endless sunshine
To my land full of rainy skies and gales
And I shall be aboard that ship tomorrow
Though my heart is full of tears at this farewell

For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell
For you are beautiful, I have loved you dearly
More dearly than the spoken word can tell

I’ve heard there’s a wicked war a-blazing
And the taste of war I know so very well
Even now I see the foreign flag a-raising
Their guns on fire as we sail into hell
I have no fear of death, it brings no sorrow
But how bitter will be this last farewell

Last Farewell

YouTube says it’s from 1971 but I associate it with the fall of Saigon in ’75.

Thanks for that. I didn’t even know I had “Roger Whittaker” filed away somewhere in my head but now thanks to that little earwig I realize he’s in there somewhere. And no, I can’t pull the memory of the infomercial out but it’s stuck in there somewhere.

There ya go – if you accept that I’ll have a total of TWO friends!

and you can see the ridiculously long periods of time I’ve spent blowing up Mechs, trying to make Europe safe for the NAZIs, and then destroying NAZI Germany.

YouTube shows Last Farewell as part of the 1971 Brando film Mutiny on the Bounty. I can’t listen to it as YouT now puts 3 minutes of ads in front of every song. To heck with that.

I confess: I loved Roger Whittaker. I still have cassette tapes … and nothing to play them on. 🙁

I like men’s voices. My favorite movie is Paint Your Wagon—filled with men singing, including Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jRq19uqZRM

I wonder if Roger Whittaker ever performed in a musical?

Heh, I have a small air fryer which only lets me cook about 6 chicken nuggets at a time, I spent about 2 hours Sunday making chicken nuggets and singing “Six nuggs at a tiiiime, air fryer” to the tune of the Cristy Lane “One Day at a Time” 5 second clip from the old greatest hits commercial. Never in my life have I heard either Roger Whitaker or Cristy Lane on the radio but I can remember the 5 second clips of those stupid songs from teevee.

I recall thinking he was the Filene’s Basement version of Gordon Lightfoot (Kindle wants me to spell correct that to turn the man into a Scottish Infantry Regiment – Gordon Light Foot).

Swease, I have about 450,000 Steam points that, since I’m an antisocial b*stard, I’ll never use. Maybe I’ll gift them to you for all the laughs I’ve gotten reading this blog. Next time I see you online you may get a surprise!

I friended you, even though I also mostly interact with Steam by seeing those popups about what other people are playing.

I don’t even know where the points are shown so I’m assuming I don’t have any, though I do have hundreds of games I’ve never played!
