Now that’s messed up

And I’m not talking about his face – though the poor bastard has a very weird kisser. When Graham Linehan stepped off the plane at Heathrow today, he was arrested. They sent five armed policemen to do it. Police are traditionally not armed here, so that was the cherry on top.
For three snarky gender-critical tweets he made in April.
Here’s the story on his substack. I think this will turn out to be a grave error from the government. Dude has a helluva megaphone.

For having been declared an official enemy of the State, I would suggest that he get out of britain as soon as he can and never return. Also changing citizenship would be a good idea. And to be honest, I would also recommend that Americans avoid visiting britain until it is sorted out how totalitarian they are going to be.

He might currently have “a helluva megaphone”, but how long until the government takes that away from him?
One more time:

That they were firearms officers is incidental – all police officers at Heathrow are armed – but the optics are dreadful.
But if you look at the tweets in question, yeah, a grave error indeed.

Have you tried turning your government off and back on again?
Worked on “IT Crowd” at least.

Stoaty? Maybe you could run that picture you made of Margaret Thatcher. As a sort of palate cleanser.

Quite honestly, I think you and Uncle Badger might start casting about for another country. You think that, out in the English countryside, you are safe from the government and the activists. You are not; no one is. The British equivalent of the French Revolution has begun and things will get worse before they get better….
Robespierre lectured the convention on the necessity for the Terror: “The foundations of a popular government in a revolution are virtue and terror; terror without virtue is disastrous; and virtue without terror is powerless.
April 2: Trial of Danton before the Revolutionary Tribunal. He used the occasion to ridicule and insult his opponents.
April 4: The Convention decrees that anyone who insults the justice system is excluded from speaking, barring Danton from defending himself.
April 5: Danton and Desmoulins are convicted and guillotined the same day.
As the prisons are full, the Convention speeds up the trials of those accused. Witnesses are no longer required to testify. From June 11 to July 27, 1,376 prisoners are sentenced to death, with no acquittals, compared with 1251 death sentences in the previous fourteen months.

Faugh! Faugh I say! Any time I read the Daily Fail and hear about fascist Trump and I mention no freedom of speech in an island off the coast of Europe I am always told I’m stupid and such things are said not to happen and I’m a stupid MAGAhead with no understanding of reality and the worldliness of Europe.
I cared for a while what would happen. I care about y’all but there are too many AWFL and AWMLS on the deck of Landing Strip One and realized it can’t be saved by us under Trump or anyone else not from over there. So you’re not going to be saved for many years.

This arrest is insane—five armed cops for edgy tweets? UK’s speech laws are spiraling into absurdity, prioritizing offense over real crime. Linehan’s got a point; it’s chilling for everyone.

Well, they’ve barred him from using X so that’s not helpful for him but they haven’t banned him from using Substack because they’re stupid, like most totalitarians.
This might hopefully be the ‘bridge too far’ moment but I doubt it. Watching from Ireland, where things are arguably worse in some dimensions, it’s completely unbelievable. I lived in London for 9 years from the early 90s through the early 2000s and I could never imagine things would get this bad
We still have friends and family there and every time we visit it breaks my heart.
Although with hindsight I should’ve twigged on the overall trajectory when they started putting chips in some residential bins (garbage cans) to detect if you were putting the ‘wrong’ garbage in so they could fine you. Absolute b*st*rds.

Linehan has been living in Arizona. He’s making a new TV series, as I understand it. I don’t know if he plans to move to the US long term.
