Finally, a brand that has meaning

moronbilly

So Ace finally notices my pathetic link-whoring attempt fifteen months after I first touched lip to his backside, and where am I? Offline, that’s where. Stupid dead cablemodem.

Actually, I stopped using the moronblogger icon myself when I moved off of WordPress. I decided it was over the line. My understanding of ‘the line’ has always been hazy, but wherever it is I’m pretty sure it has my footprints all over it.

Billy had escaped into the wild by then, adopted by morons everywhere. God speed, little ‘tard!

Today, morons are busting out all over. Conservative Belle is putting together the official moronosphere blogroll (dang! I’ve got a lot of sidebar updating to do) and Sinistar of Double Plus Undead is doing regular moronosphere link roundups.

You know the neat thing about the moronosphere? It actually means something. If you like AoSHQ, you will probably like many of the spinoff blogs. They mainly share the same sense of bedrock conservative values wedded to crude arm-flailing pinwheeling utter drooling retardedness.

Y’all know ‘moron’ was a technical term with a specific meaning, right? Sez Wikipedia:

Moron was originally an English scientific term, coined in 1910 by psychologist Henry H. Goddard from the Greek word moros, which meant “dull” (as opposed to “sharp”), and used to describe a person with a mental age located between 8 and 12 on the Binet scale. It was once applied to people with an IQ of 51-70, being superior in one degree to “imbecile” (IQ of 26-50) and superior in two degrees to “idiot” (IQ of 0-25). The word moron, along with others including “retarded”, “idiotic”, “imbecilic”, “stupid”, and “feeble-minded”, was formerly considered a valid descriptor in the psychological community, though these words have all now passed into common slang use, exclusively in a detrimental context.

Mental age: eight to twelve. ‘Bout right.

So where are you hiding the code for this little gem? I’d love to put it on my sidebar.

Sinistar sent me an email looking for some sort of official seal. I don’t know how that would differ from this, but for now you can right-click this image, save it and upload to your site and just drop it into your sidebar, however you edit your sidebar. I’ve forgotten how that works on WordPress.

This one is shrunk down to 150 pixels wide, which is a common sidebar width (yours is wider than that, though).

I can’t get wordpress to just let me drop something into the sidebar. I have to use a widget and some sort of code. For now, I’ve put it on my “about” page.

Thanks. Your very generous with your artwork.

Pff! Generous? I get precious ass-pats out of this, and what am I out? Nothin’.

I assumed because you had a couple of icons in your sidebar that you knew a way to post graphics there. For future reference:

1. Upload an image as if you’re going to put it in a post (this way you don’t have to host the graphic off-site).

2. Send the graphic to the editor as if you were composing and copy the resulting tag.

3. Create a text widget in your sidebar and put the image there. The tag looks like: <img src=”http://mysite.com/thatgraphicname.jpg”>

You can put multiple graphics in a text widget, or graphics and text, or text and then graphics, or use multiple text widgets. Frustration with trying to get my sidebars just so is what led me to leave WordPress (though they’re better than, say, Blogger).

Wow, this is really starting to get some traction. It’s kind of fun. And Billy is the absolute perfect mascot, precisely because he’s so un-PC, and fits the AOSQ attitude brilliantly.

Congrats!

Yeah, Weaz. I think I understand what you mean by “the line” and I’ll agree (not that you care) that it is “close” to the line.

But Weaz – Maroons will ALL take it in the intended context and manner (Maroons are not generally PC) – and the assholes who think it might cross the line are precisely the ones you (or I, anyway) would want to tweak anyway!

Congrats on an Official Piece Of The Net!

Oh! Weaz! That’s @sspats, not asspats. jwp would have a fit!

We don’t dare, Badger!

Hell, I’ve been trying to get her to moon her boss for months, to no avail. A less patient man would get discouraged…

Maybe after she moves I can talk her into mooning the neighbor. Or a sheep. Or the TV license inspectors in their truck.

Huh. An interesting tidbit from John Lott.

As someone who knew Obama for a little while — we were both at the University of Chicago — it has been hard to recognize the person that I knew from the one portrayed in the campaign. The person that I knew was not one who sought to build bridges with those he disagreed.

[…]

Possibly it was his anger over our differences over the gun issue or a broader anger with those with whom he disagreed, but attempts to engage in discussions ended with a stern looks and a turned back. That was true whether I met him at school or someplace else. There was anger there.

Senor Hope-o Change-o, an angry man? Do tell!

From Laura Ingraham’s quote of the day –
“[Barack] made everything out like it was all racial.”
— Keith Kakugawa, a close childhood friend of Obama’s in Hawaii

Seems angry whitey hater Mr. Wright has some ‘splainin to do too. Seems he wasn’t a victim of Jim Crow type racism and hatred as Obama made him out to be. Seems he grew up in a very nice neighborhood and attended a 95% white school (80% Jewish).

That wasn’t physically part of the graphic; it was a line of text underneath. When I moved over here, I incorporated a lot of the text into graphics so I could get it to line up just the way I wanted.

I spent a lot of time — especially on the initial graphics — squeezing them all down as small as possible, so that I could use a whole buttload of graphics without appreciably slowing down the page. When I caught myself trying to fuss icons from 12K down to 10K, I reined that in a bit. In broadband days, it hardly matters.

I love your header, by the way, Christopher. Particularly at work, where the network is slow, that thing actually animates as it loads all the little flags. It’s kind of a cool effect.

When I saw Gabe had it on his blog (maybe about a month ago), I knew it was only time people would notice. So I put one on my blog.

I’m a proud moronblogger.

True story: AoSHQ has two reasons I started blogging. One is Jack M. Say what you will about him, but have gave me an astoundingly warm welcome to the blogosphere. He posted my story and testimony on his blog, back when he blogged. He actually asked me to send it to him. He invited people to ask questions. I’d email the answers, which he would post. He (and the people asking questions) often remarked I should blog. So I decided it was time to do so.

At that time I was very active at Ace’s. I would write my usual, long, lecture-comments. To the point people began to complain, pointing out it was bad form to do that. So rather than clutter up Ace’s bandwidth, I posted my long comments on my blog and linked thereto on the relevant comment thread.

He’s truly the Blogfather.

Strangely enough, long comments are de rigeur over at protein wisdom. Never felt out of place there either.

But the pw crowd is a little different from the Moronosphere.

God, the Clintons are so creepy. It’s like they’re aliens attempting to pass for human by mimicking television. I just ran across this picture while randomly surfing:

Ladies, does this picture make you think of your dad and cringe? Maybe it’s just an accidental juxtaposition, but it’s not the first image I’ve seen where Bill and Chelsea are getting the father/daughter boundary thing horribly wrong.

No, because everytime I look at a Clinton I cringe. Period. Personally, I think there is a little something loopy about their kid. Could you imagine having her mother as your mother? I’m surprised she didn’t turn out to be a self-cutting Emo.

All of them need to go away.

Pity she doesn’t have a zip-lock mouth, y’know, like for a freezer bag.

Self-cutting Emo? I like that, PnB. Kind of an easy-open option. Science marches on!

Say! I wonder if Chelsea swallows? Oh! Is that offensive? I’m sorry – its just that I’m in a ridiculously good mood this morning. I don’t know why – but then I don’t really need a reason, do I?

It will be interesting to follow Chelsea’s career to see if she’s as amoral and opportunistic as her parents.
