Poor old girl

Uncle B called me at work this morning and said, “was there a reason you left Mapp Chicken running loose?”

Ah, no. Before I left, I opened the henhouse door, saw “some chickens” and assumed it was all of them. Poor old Mapp. He said she looked very grateful to scoot into the henhouse with the others. It was bitterly cold this morning and she’s the old girl.

Thus began a silly day. I lost our tax paperwork. I found it again (after one of those painful ‘tearing the place apart’ sessions). I got an email from a long-lost first cousin.

I think I’ll have a gin, a long nap and a do-over tomorrow.

I had one of those days on Monday–my profound sympathies! Hope Mapp recovers rapidly–and that gin/nap were a successful reboot!

Oh—poor little bird. How hardy ARE chickens?

I semi-regularly have the tearing-apart sessions. After putting up with my frantic-itude, and hearing some of the words I rarely used outside of work or the Army, Mrs Fert will step in and in short order find whatever I’ve been looking for.
It’s a gift.
So is she.

Jim Neighbors is no longer with us. The was quite the singer, it was always a pleasure to hear him.

I have those days with increasing frequency. Age-related insomnia (can’t fall asleep, can’t stay asleep, don’t reach deep sleep) is a bitch.

Jim Neighbors is no longer with us. The was quite the singer, it was always a pleasure to hear him.

And the contrast with his normal speaking voice — which apparently was always much like his Gomer voice — was astonishing. Actor Ken Curtis had the same amazing ability. You recall him as “Festus” on Gunsmoke? Well, I caught his performance as a hillbilly on a have Gun Will Travel a while ago. Along comes a scene where he’s in a parlor, and is asked to sing . . . and out comes this grand voice. (As far as I know it was him, and not dubbed in.) His non-Festus speaking voice was rich and unaccented General American, anyway.

About the bacon post.
Stoaty! You have some splainin to do!

Are we supposed to be believe you suddenly ending up with bacon has absolutely nothing to do with this bacon shortage at McD’s?

This looks like it needs a special prosecutor to investigate!
