Worst case of coffee table rings ever

This again. Though we’ve had some rain now in our little corner of Jollye Olde, it’s still pretty dry and droughty everywhere. And we know what that means: 1,500 newly discovered archaeological sites poking out of the dry grass.

The one in the picture puzzles me. The article describes it as “a circle of pits, and later burial mounds and traces of a settlement.” But the circles look too neat and round to be super ancient. And they overlap so much! This was a very busy place over a very long time. For some reason.

‘Retha Franklin has joined the choir eternal. KMM takes the dick. You know what that means: NEW DEADPOOL FRIDAY.

Maybe they didn’t want to rebuild on the smoky ruin of the last round-fort/round-house after the Whoeverii finished with them and went back to where they came from (driving their cattle and lugging their women and treasures).

If it’s an otherwise fertile region there’s every incentive not to move away, so you start again after the respawn.

Or if you’ve recently ‘acquired’ the property to build your new joint there…just not in the spot where you, you know, did some questionable shit that will cause haints and such.

I swear, someday they’ll fawn over one of these until someone says, wait a minute, these are tread tracks…and it’ll turn out to be something left over from WWII.

When you got a lotta history in a small space, it kinds bleeds together after a while.

Here’s another article on the same topic from Historic England.

Brother Cavil, those are carefully preserved as well. There was a local controversy because someone locally needed to grub up some huge concrete blocks that were used to stop a possible tank advance.

Not to discount the activities of ancient peoples, but what is the likelihood that some of these “ringed” places were used by armies during in the more recent past? That oval strikes me as distinctly military, and I wonder if the whole place was a training ground. Or maybe it was just the yearly circus 🙂

Is the nearby road Roman? The Romans often followed ancient tracks which might account for so many overlapping settlements…or not.

WarrenY, I’d do it if I could get away with it.

They have to be made to order, so you have to measure several different dimensions on your bird. There’s a little brrrrr pocket at the back you have to empty several times a day.

It’s a chicken….stick it in the “Sparky 7 day diaper” from the National Lampoon of my youth.

That would be a 20 gallon plastic trash bag with the top secured around the neck of whatever (they used human babies in their spoof) you’re wanting in the diaper.

I leave transfer and cleanup to the imagination though I suspect that won’t take much to imagine.

The two circles, and the oval, I was going to suggest the oval was a horse track, but I can’t splain how that works with the 2 circles.

The house provides a scale reference though (big house though). You’re not talking things much bigger than one of those old round house things they used to build with the wood palisade wall.

@ BJM :
That little scene has a lot going on in it! Even the pink “work footwear” is remarkable while Jake and Elwood don’t look all that comfortable as “backup singers.”
