Fixed.

He probably didn’t think he needed fixing.

It was a little scary for a while. This morning, they said to expect to hear from them at 1:30. We didn’t. When we called, they said he was fine…and we could come at 5:30, and then they kept us waiting.

I suspect he didn’t come out of the anesthesia as fast as expected. When we finally saw the vet, she said something like, “the important thing is that he’s awake now.”

After Jack had his op, he was out of his head for twelve hours. Climbing the walls, crying to get out. It was awful. If they were waiting for Booboo to sober up a little, I’m all for it.

Anyway, he was wobbly for an hour, but he’s fine now. Except his pupils are the size of dinner plates and he stinks of disinfectant. Oh, and…no balls.

I’ve seen dogs waking up from anesthesia crying and distraught. And I’ve even seen kids wake up hysterical and screaming. It’s not pleasant.

Now you need to change his name by taking off two of the round things.

BooBoo is now BoBo.

In a sane world that’s how it would work.
Hmm, I guess that instruction could also lead you to call him

Boob.

This isn’t AoSHQ though is it.

And confidentially, I think he looks pissed and I don’t mean that in the English sense of the word.

Dashing through the snow
Chasing the chickens all away
O’er the fields he goes
Meowing all the way
Balls on Booboo swing
Bouncing oh so nicely
Oh what fun it is to be
A Tomcat feeling feisty!

No Cone? (full disclosure: I had a cat named NoNuts when I met my wife. She got tired of the vet reminder cards coming in the mail for NoNuts and made me change it. He was Punk after that)

Fixed. Broke.

Yes, yes, I know it’s necessary, and for his (and your) own good. But still…

I wonder if cats (and dogs) smell a difference between intact and neutered males. Maybe Charlotte will treat BooBoo more kindly now that he’s less of a menace.

Deborah – Less of a menace.
If we had to base that theory on a study of our hot backup dog (in event of emergency inflate to 120 lbs) Lucy the Dachshuahua, I’d have to say the menace might continue.

No, he was a little drunk and tried playing with Charlotte last night. It did not go well.

There was a dog making the most unnerving sounds at the vets yesterday. They explained he was waking up from anesthesia. I thought it was a cat, the pitch was so high.

I hate having animals neutered, Uncle Al. I know it has to be done, but I just hate it. I put it off as long as I can, particularly for males. They need the T to develop properly.

Wow, the technology for nut removal has really changed. In 1972 we took Rusty, our big red male cat, to be snipped. He was 7 years old and had only then begun to spray. He had to stay overnight. When we brought him home he stumbled all around the ground floor as if to be certain he was home, climbed with assistance into his favorite chair, and slept for 3 more hours. After that he was fine.

Arizona, my second red tabby, was altered at 8 months of age in 1983, and came home the next day without any grogginess. He had enough testosterone to develop into a big 14-lb. cat with no fat.

Wolf, the current big black longhair, was done in one day in 2011 and with no grogginess. He was about 18 months old, and it didn’t stunt his growth; he’s another 14-pounder. None of the 3 displayed any personality change that we could discern, just no spraying behavior.

Ah, but without the T, Anonymous, they can more easily become good Labour voters. Or Democrats. Or Rove Republicans…
