Bunny season

Welly’s first bunny! Not this, this is a ten year old picture. I didn’t get a pic of today’s bunny, I was too busy bunny wrangling.

The boys didn’t seem to mind. They thought I was hunting with them.

Big boy killed one first. Not too much screaming or torture, so I didn’t interfere, but I’m sorry to say he didn’t eat it and it just lay in the grass giving the occasional post-mortem twitch.

Then Welly caught one. I think it got away from him – they were playing ball with it for a while. I grabbed someone’s bunny to rescue it and the little bastard fought like the devil to get away from me. Stupid bunny.

I don’t always interfere. I am at peace with the idea that cats are sadistic thugs. But I can’t have my peaceful garden experience tainted with the screaming and the running and the blood and the whole bunny murder thing.

I could see roughly where the nest was. Whenever I took a bunny away from Big Cat he’d shrug, go over to the bunny pile and grab another one.

Mrs Bunny made a very bad choice this spring.

Have a good weekend, everyone, and don’t bear your bunnies just any old where!

p.s. my Zoom call went better than expected. We had seven of us on at one time, and I was taken aback at how moved I was to see the old dears again.

I heard that Zoom call.

Think of a henhouse. On acid.

Methinks this year’s crop of bunnies was conceived as just that: a crop. They have been downright suicidal in their lack of awareness to predators. M’boy the Borzoi and I have been hiking 5 to 9 miles a day in a commercial/suburban mixed area where I reside. He has caught THREE of them while I have him on a 6ft walking-lead. I am not chasing them (as if I could keep up with him OR a rabbit).

And don’t get me started on the true imbeciles of the wild: deer. Last night, two of them were bedded down within 10yds of the sidewalk of a busy street.

I’m not a Zoom-Child but I can’t imagine things have improved all that much from the days of the Conference Call… except that you have to wear clothes now.

Zoom call in my imagination:

“Well ‘ello, Mrs. Premise!”
” ‘ello, Mrs. Conclusion!”

Related: growing up, we had a small glass penguin figure on our television set for years and years. Wonder what became of it.

Bunnies, Green Anoles and Geckos.

Also jars of “Kitty Snackies”, Corn Muffins stored in plastic sandwich bags and Bill Jack doggie treats.

Bags of dog/cat food left unattended on a neighbor’s back porch.

There is a reason Delilah survived outdoors long enough to get her green card and take up permanent residency with us.

A few years back we had the Great Raccoon Slaughter here. Mostly vehicular, but there must have been 10 or so, mostly young’uns, squashed by the side of the road in my neighborhood. Usually raccoons are smarter than that but I suspect somebody married their cousin that year.

I’ve lost count of how many times I find out it’s Saturday by coming to the Weasel Manor and realizing there’s no new post.

I rarely see rabbits or hares in my region, and it’s been that way for years. I suspect a disease is killing them.

Totally off topic (like that’s new for me).

Shout out to BJM for the pickled Egg recipe of April 8th.

2nd batch went into the fridge this morning and the 1st batch is mostly gone. They were decent after only 1 week, but I noticed they improved DAILY as the week went on (4/14 packed, first test on the 21st). I couldn’t keep out of them to let them sit longer than 1 week. Mrs D. thought I’d lost my mind when I celebrated on the 21st because I could try them.

“That’s the big deal eh? (rolls eyes)”,
pause.

“Did you use all the eggs?”

The best part, NO ONE else will eat them, so I don’t have to share!

back on topic:

I can’t believe not one of you other old geezers suggested it was actually

“Wabbit Season”.
