Yo.

We heard on our local WhatsApp group that a steam train was going to come through our station today, so we motored into town and stood waiting for half an hour.

Turns out, it’s tomorrow.

The box that controls the rail barrier says YO. (It says YO on the other side, too).

Yeah, you think you find that boring, try keeping it company for thirty minutes.

Train pictures tomorrow, maybe.

It looks like there is a dinosaur walking by in the background but I have had a long day.

If my Google-fu is strong, YO is the code for the “Up-side-right barrier.” The opposite (down-side-left) should be marked ZN. It looks like, if there are two barriers per side the others would be YN and ZO respectively.

Not sure that’s correct, and no clue what the codes stand for (if anything), but was curious and that’s what I found so I figured I’d share.

What a shame about the train. It’s really impressive to see a steam loco up close, even more so if it’s moving, duh. Good luck Thursday!

Some years back there was a fad amongst Toyota truck owners wherein they peeled off the first two and last two letters of the tailgate lettering, leaving simply YO. It seems it amused them in some manner opaque to the rest of us. (I would have liked to have seen an off-center OY but never did.)

Dinosaurs. Please.
That’s a light mech lance drop ship set down behind a couple of warehouse buildings, probably resupplying.

Geeze people.

And more to the point, notice the way it’s blurred when things at the same or greater distance are more visible in other parts of the image. The background in the picture just to the right of the poles abutting the YO box is much more distinct.

That’s right, they have the camouflage field active to blur visual spotting; and based on the range of the distortion in the photo I’d say they have it cranked up to 11.

So what you’re saying is, that you failed at train spotting?

Sad.

Reminds me of the time I was in an elevator mechanical room in a high rise, testing fire alarm equipment. I turned a corner around a controller with a digital display flashing P_UP and I wondered how it knew my internet nickname.

I checked out the other box (there’s only one on each side). It said YN. *shrug*
