Do I have a rat here?

Fingers for scale.

It’s too big for a mouse, but it seems small for a rat. It’s not chubby enough for a vole or wood rat or any woodland creature of that kind. It just looks wrong for Norvegicus to me.

I got it in a mouse trap. It’s way too big for a mouse trap. It caught him in the upper thigh, so I’m not at all sure why he died. Shock, I guess. Poor wee beastie.

Oh, I just realized. Apologies to any of you who might be rat phobic. My grandma was so severely rat phobic she probably would have stopped speaking to me forever for this post.

Skinless tail: rat family.

Hairy tail: mouse family

That looks like a mouse tail to me.

Isn’t there a government agency there in Old Blighty that will help you identify this poor dead rodent?

There are several varieties of rat. It doesn’t have to be Norvegicus. Looking at it from this distance, I say rat. They all start small, remember.

I’m no expert, but that looks a small rat to me. It’s almost as big as a palmetto bug.

I was going to say that I don’t have a general rat phobia, just a Democ-rat phobia but that would’ve been unfair and misleading. There are plenty of Repugnicans that give me the heebie-jeebies, too.

@Uncle AL
Ah, yes, the rats of the American Uni-Party. Along with their tech oligarch friends looking to a brighter future when they can move from being faux members of economic and elected political nobility to actual full fledged people of entitlement with appropriate estates and feudal privileges.

Marquis of Minnesota
Viscount of Oregon and Washington
Baron of Boston
Earl of Encino
Duke of Detroit and lower Michigan
Prince of New England and New York
Comte de Cincinnati
etc.

All to be listed in “Burk’s Pierage” of course. 😛

Those weren’t spelling errors.

Caesar of Seattle
Wazir of Washington
Shaman of Chicago
Caliph of California
Ayatollah of Atlanta
Pasha of Portland
Dynast of the District of Columbia

It is to be hoped that they’ll be thwarted by the Men and Women of Middle America.

I vote rat. Small, but no hair on the tail.

(yeah. I'm going to write)

(oooo! you have a website?)
