Have a krakentastic Thanksgiving, y’all

We enthusiastically observe Thanksgiving in this household, thank you very much, but it’s an evening meal for us. It’s only 6 in the evening here, so still prep time.

If you can’t tell, that’s me folding an obscene amount of butter into a sweet potato, before adding a disgraceful amount of brown sugar. In the Souf, where I am from, you’d top off the dish with marsh mallows before baking. I haven’t got any and don’t particularly care for them anyway, so you’re spared that outrage.

When I was a kid, we never could believe our luck that candied yams were considered a vegetable.

Eh. Food looks gross in black and white, don’t it? I hope you have had, are having or will have a splendid feast today and have much in your life to be thankful for!

Durned son #3 made that for an illicit nonCovid fearing gathering. Completely southronized, all three of them, I say without any shame. Sir and M’am, please and thank you, and ‘don’t cross mom’.

And the cute little demon, when they divvied up the left overs amongst the participants, he withheld half a dish of them to bring home. Having sampled their dinner contributions, his friends can cook Thanksgiving for us anytime.

Hope you and Uncle B have a splendid Thanksgiving Day, and also to all the other imaginary internet friends of Miss Weasel M’am.

Oh, and on this day allegedly brought on by people seeking religious freedom, the Supremes ruled in favor of churches and synagogues in New York telling their Stalinist rulers to sod off.

Some of the system still works!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
(For some reason it took three tries for my greeting to post.)

It ain’t Thanksgiving until the turkeys fly, or not.

I hateses marshmallows on baked yams. I’m so lazy nowadays that I baked ’em whole like jacket potatoes in the microwave, split, fluff and lash with plenty of butter, fresh chives and a drizzle of honey. Works for us.

Yes, Happy Thanksgiving, rebel colonials!

A good friend of mine also has the, er, good fortune, to have married a n’American and they are celebrating too. Then we have a neighbour who celebrates, ‘cos she grew up in the United Snakes… various people I’ve spoken with today have worked out it’s a holiday….

Damn me! We’re being reverse colonised!!!

PS – When you’ve done with him, can we borrow your president, please? Someone has to liberate us from Fataturk…

Sweet potatoes only belong in sweet potato pie.

Happy Thanksgiving! Even in the current mire we’ve still got so much to be thankful for. God bless Badger/Weasel house!

For Butternut squash fans, Instantpot is your friend!
15 minutes at high pressure. Poof, scoop it out of the skin with a spoon and it’s already more or less mashed.
No peeling or powertools involved in cubing the silly things.

@BJM – rakes shovels and implements of de-struction.

You remember Alice, it’s a song about Alice.

We fried a turkey (been doing it for 30+ years, even when we lived in Boston), we mashed the taters, we Pumpkined the pie. All on a glorious sunny day in Florida. We slept in late today and took up with the feasting and drinking right where we left off yesterday. America has the BESTEST holidays!

@Durned – yep, once you embrace the concept of the Instapot it really does save time and effort. I got the air fryer Duo yesterday with a Yuge discount. I can’t wait to see how it works.

Here’s Mike Green’s review and while he has kind of a goofy online persona; the boy can cook. https://youtu.be/634iiu71L1M

Try some orange juice in with the sweet potatoes. And mash them thoroughly.
