Dead Pool Round 139: I saw a snowdrop today!

Blake takes the dick with Dustin Diamond aka Screech. I’m too old for Saved by the Bell. Come to think of it, aren’t most of you old also? How did you know who this guy is?

Never mind. I had a thing about bad children’s cartoons in the Nineties when I had a boring job and a TV at my desk. I kept telling everyone Pokémon was going to be huge, but would they listen?

Right. Ready?

0. Rule Zero (AKA Steve’s Rule): your pick has to be living when picked. Also, nobody whose execution date is circled on the calendar. Also, please don’t kill anybody. Plus (Pupster’s Rule) no picking someone who’s only famous for being the oldest person alive.

1. Pick a celebrity. Any celebrity — though I reserve the right to nix picks I never heard of (I don’t generally follow the Dead Pool threads carefully, so if you’re unsure of your pick, call it to my attention).

2. We start from scratch every time. No matter who you had last time, or who you may have called between rounds, you have to turn up on this very thread and stake your claim.

3. Poaching and other dirty tricks positively encouraged.

4. Your first choice sticks. Don’t just blurt something out, m’kay? Also, make sure you have a correct spelling of your choice somewhere in your comment. These threads get longish and I use search to figure out if we have a winner.

5. It’s up to you to search the thread and make sure your choice is unique. I’m waayyyy too lazy to catch the dupes. Popular picks go fast.

6. The pool stays open until somebody on the list dies. Feel free to jump in any time. Noobs, strangers, drive-bys and one-comment-wonders — all are welcome.

7. If you want your fabulous prize, you have to entrust me with a mailing address. If you’ve won before, send me your address again. I don’t keep good records.

8. The new DeadPool will begin 6pm WBT (Weasel’s Blog Time) the Friday after the last round is concluded.

The winner, if the winner chooses to entrust me with a mailing address, will receive an Official Certificate of Dick Winning and a small original drawing on paper suffused with elephant shit particles. Because I’m fresh out of fairy shit particles.

Hoping for another smile inducing piece of Stoaty art on Ellypoo. Sooo many targets for ire and ill-wishes, but I try and leave all of those feelings on the heavy-bag during workouts. I’m sticking with Norman “Henry Mallory” Lloyd.

Hate to see him go as he by far is the best weapon to push against the democratic socialist communist movement. For one brief moment we were united against the wall street elites. (Gamestop)

Thanks to dissent, Expresso Bold, and Lester III. I’m very excited about winning the dick, with due apologies to the spirit of the famous departed for adding a superfluous “c” to his last name.

To Rich Rostrom, like Uncle Al, I’d like a records check. Because my accumulation of old emails is spotty, I hesitate to cast doubt on your excellent stats. However, through no fault of your own, I think you may have been crediting me with at least one (maybe two) more wins than I’ve deserved credit for. I should have asked earlier for your help in clearing up whatever misunderstanding there may be on this point.

Here’s what I believe to be true: I’ve (sorta) had two “wins.” The first was for Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. somewhere within a day or three of May 12, 2014. It was a solid win, and I received one of Stoaty’s terrific pen and ink sketches as the prize. The second was for Kirk Kerkorian, on June 15, 2015. This “win” ended up invalid, as I saw it. The lag between UK’s daylight saving time and my own, plus my inability to determine the hour of Mr. Kerkorian’s death made it impossible for me to know which came first — my DP comment or Mr. K’s demise. So I disavowed the win and relinquished claim to the dick. Only Stoaty and I knew this, and she was perfectly willing to accept the win as legit. I hope you can find some way to account for the ending of that Dead Pool round without attributing the win to any specific entrant, also downgrade my scorecard.

It’s possible that I’ve forgotten, but I don’t remember any additional Dead Pool triumphs. For me, the best proof is one small piece of Stoaty’s art on the wall of my dining room, where, when a visitor asks about the adorable kitten, I lie that I received it in recognition of my ability to see into the beyond. (What do they know, right?) I’d be glad to hear from you, Rich, if you can point to any indication that I’ve had more good luck than I think.

This message is for Rich Rostrom because I don’t know of another way to contact him.

Rich, your stats are impeccable. It’s been my error all along. This week’s win for George Shultz is my 4th (note the Kerkorian no-go,) Apple and Yahoo! Mail, plus an occasional lack of focus on things at hand, caused me to lose track.

Several years ago, a computer OS upgrade caused some sort of security conflict between my computer and Yahoo! Mail. This caused Yahoo! to shunt a small number of old, saved emails right off to the back of a dusty attic somewhere. It also prevented me from composing and sending email directly from my aging computer. Rebuilding the mailbox accomplished nothing. I could still compose/send from Yahoo!’s website, so that’s what I did for several years. Old emails were gone and forgotten.

Last night I emailed Stoaty, and suddenly Yahoo! Mail coughed up a small wad of old secluded emails, two of which revealed a win for Dead Pool Round No. 87 on September 30, 2016. There was my “missing” third win, for the late Neville Marriner. This find confirmed that your stats have been entirely correct.

Thank you so much for your careful record keeping! I’d completely forgotten that Neville Marriner humored a fleeting wish on October 2, 2016. What a gifted and nice man he was. Always a favorite for listening, and the only spur-of-the-moment DP rabbit I’ve ever pulled out of a hat.
