McDonald’s french fries used to be the best, now they’re kinda gross. I still remember my first meal a McD’s back in the 1970’s…my brother and I went on our bikes!

online search says $.65 for a Big Mac in that time frame. System says the fries cost you $.46, prolly around the same for the drink. You’re close then on your memory.

$4.95 for the sandwich today, $7.89 for the meal.

Best burger I ever had was at the McDonald’s in North Conway New Hampshire, we’d been backpacking for three days in the White Mountains and nearly froze to death. We were headed back to flatland and stopped on the way through town, too young and stupid to realize we should be grateful to be alive.

Medicinal marijuana might have had some effect on my tastebuds that day. 😁 It wasn’t MINE officer, honest!

I don’t know what the differences are (there HAVE to be differences!) between the UK and US McDonalds practices, but in addition to the 30% discount on orders of $5 or more, my next favorite aspect is that I can order with the app, pull in to a dedicated spot in the parking lot, and they bring the food out to me in my car. Even in the rain.

I use the app a lot because of my Altzheimer’s bro-in-law. He’s one of the uncommonly happy ones; his total happiness stays pretty constant but the world he is happy in is contracting. He gets great pleasure from the couple of times per week I bring him a triple hamburger and a Coke and we split a medium order of fries. We watch the same favorite movies while my sister and niece (alternating primary caregivers) have the afternoon off.

So, though many don’t have much nice to say about the company, McD’s are a plus with our family.

@Mark — I used to like Whoppers, too. I probably still would but I can’t get past that hugely creepy facially paralyzed idiot king in their ads; he spoils my appetite.

I’ve forgotten when all the fast food stopped cooking with animal fat, but that’s the point at which its deliciousness tanked.

Late 70s / early 80s, if I wanted a meal I could scrounge coins from the couch and car seats and get a burger, maybe two, and a drink.

Now, you better find a wad of bills, or else you are going hungry.

@Mark Matis — Nope. Ronald McDonald gets a pass because the first time I ever saw a TV ad with that character, it was played by Willard Scott, a genial and pleasantly goofy local TV weatherman who later hit the big time.
