No, really, she’s holding a cat

Why you’d call a black cat Blueberry, I do not know. But meet Blueberry. He disappeared in November of 2019 and turned up this week 200 miles away in the other end of Ireland.

They think he hitched at least one car ride. Maybe several. It’s news because they’re making microchipping cats compulsory here soon.

I have mixed feelings. I’ve had all my cats chipped, but a vet told me the things migrate all over the place. He picked up one low down in a cat’s front leg once. That doesn’t sound comfortable.

We found a chipped cat once. It too a long time for him to trust us for us to take him to a vet for chip reading. We found out his owners had moved away without him since he escaped from the house during a house showing. They showed up to get him once we called them. We called him Henry but his name was Ceaser.

Politicians who pass laws making pet chipping mandatory ought to be forcibly chipped, preferably in their private parts.

Don’t misunderstand, please. I think pet chipping is generally a very good idea. It’s the “mandatory” part that gets my dander up.

Uncle Al,

Chipping politicians is a start, but I would like to keep the option open of using a wood-chipper.

@Subotai Bahadur — This is fish but I doubt anybody would notice if a little long pig got mixed in by accident.

In years past, on this beloved website, I shared some knowledge of Rendering Plants here in the USA. That fish-grinding device in the vid linked by Uncle Al is an itty-bitty version of what is in most plants (as well as most domestic wastewater facilities). The equipment that is in animal-rendering facilities can grind up bovine bones (FEMURS) into a fairly fine paste prior to going into the main ‘cooker’ that can process 100,000lbs PER HOUR.

Rendering plants were far more numerous across the USA in decades past, dotting the map regionally coast-to-coast. Certainly faaaar more numerous than steel mills or foundries.

Anyone who thinks Hoffa got buried or transported past multiple rendering plants on the way to a steel mill is being willfully ignorant. They’re already a horror movie, everything is filthy and/or covered in blood, and nobody would notice a body in a 40,000lb load of cattle carcasses.

Here is a brief video taken by me of a partial offload into the raw-material pit at a client location in 2007-2008 era.

(oooo! you have a website?)
