Miller is a two-term County Commissioner; she was endorsed in the 2nd District primary by 9 of the other 15 Democrat Commissioners, Chicago ex-mayor Lightfoot, and the Chicago Tribune. IOW, a conventional well-connected establishment Democrat. Jackson jr was a loser trying to get back in.

In any case: the Left is not a monolith. They are absolutely united on most issues, especially in loathing of Trump, but there is no top-down power structure giving orders.

I’m in the Illinois 9th District, where long-time far-left incumbent Schakowsky retired. 15 candidates ran in the Democrat primary, including two state senators, a state representative, and mayor Biss of Evanston (a sleaze endorsed by Schakowsky). There was also Kat Abughazaleh, an ultra-left Web “influencer” and Palestinian “activist”, who raised $millions and finished a close second to Biss. Obviously, no one’s in charge.
