And your little d’….awww g’wan witcha

hamilton

I just love seeing the Wicked Witch of the West crack up laughing. This is from Margaret Hamilton’s makeup test. An early one.

I’m struck by how much she looks like Carl Sagan here.

I think she looks like Alice Cooper.

The Wicked Witch didn’t ever scare me. It was Miss Gulch who terrified. I mean, seconds after she first appears she kidnaps Toto and stuffs him in a basket! And for no reason except because she is evil. ::shudder::

And, no, when I first saw it, I didn’t realize they were played by the same person. That last scene (when Dorothy exclaims “and you were there, and you too!”) made no damn sense to me at all. I figured I must have missed the farmhands in one of the crowd scenes.

I was a hard-sell as a little kid. Didn’t much care for the movie even though we watched it on TV every year. Probably because tornadoes were all too real in my corner of the world. We’re under a tornado watch tonight!

But I love this version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” I bet Stoaty plays it beautifully on her banjo.

I saw Tommy Emmanuel play “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” as an instrumental a couple of years ago. There was a lot happening on that fretboard.

I play it slowly and badly on the banjo, ekshully.

According to Wikipedia, during the late ’40s and ’50s, Margaret Hamilton was active in her church as a Sunday School teacher. Imagine the trauma some poor kids suffered when they realized the teacher is the freaking Wicked Witch.

Can you make this morph into Hillary? It would be an internet hit!

I’ve heard Margaret Hamilton described as the nicest woman in Hollywood. She described in an interview what it was like to have children scream and run away in the street.
