Paging Argentium G. Tiger…!

silverband

Argentium G. Tiger, please go to the white courtesy phone. Someone you (presumably) know is looking for you and, believe it or not, your most recent internet presence with this nick is a comment on this blog. Drop me a line and I’ll give you the deets.

By contrast to the ploughing match I posted about yesterday, here is the house band from the poshest of posh fetes.

How posh? That ain’t a brass band, son, it’s a silver band. Yes, it’s a thing.

They’re very good, actually. It’s particularly amusing when they break into an enthusiastic version of the Time Warp or sech like.

As time went on, some kept the name, silver but not necessarily the instruments. Nowadays, the only real difference is that silver bands are located mainly in the south of England and brass bands in the north, although some silver bands do still exist in the North and many brass bands exist in the South.

Right-Oh…
I’m sure there some special literary term for talking or writing out of both sides of the mouth or idea at virtually the same time but I just generally call it “bullshit.”

Now I have to boycott Toby Stephens. He’s on twitter ranting about Trump & calling for impeachment. When the fuck did he become an American? /pottymouth

On an up note, loved Trump’s presser. See AoShq for bullet points.

When I was in Norway the first time I was visiting one of their excellent culture parks with my son and DiL, when we happened across a local polka band tootling their little hearts out on the grass much like your silver band there. Yes, I sat to listen for a while. They were terrible, but it was good nonetheless.

Silver instruments?
How do they compare to brass as far as sound?
Is it noticably different or just hoity-toity?

Nah, it’s just silver plate. They don’t sound any different. Once upon a time, silver plate was expensive, so it indicated a better class of musician.

Ric Fan, I very much enjoyed reading quotes from Trump’s presser. I never watch those things on video, though, no matter who’s president. I find it unbearably cringey.

Yes. Silver plate over brass. The silver on the lip plate of my second-hand, school-girl flute was worn off enough to see the brass underneath.

Adams silver instruments, made in the Netherlands, are still greatly admired and sought after.

I normally don’t watch press conferences either. The constant tongue baths the “reporters” gave BHO for 8 years would have sickened a vulture. But I heard Trump’s conference on Hannity yesterday. Trump actually slapped down a reporter, saying, “I’m not finished, Fake News”!!!

I have to say that I am pleased to see some pushback against the violent Left.

Here’s a little bit of FINALLY

http://nypost.com/2017/08/15/woman-hit-with-felony-charges-for-toppling-confederate-statue/

The urge to destroy the all vestiges of the past, good or bad, are dangerous because people forget the lessons mankind has learned the hard way so quickly. If the Blacks really want to keep the memory of the evils of slavery alive, they would keep those statues around so that they could serve as a starting point for history lessons for their children.

Instead they are falling for a Maoist-style (and Taliban-style, for that matter) attempt to erase the past.

Heh – they mocked the POTUS for asking if Washington would be next. Why not, he was a slave owner, right? Along with Jefferson and others. Evil white guys. You just know some person out there is being paid to be triggered by their statues.

AND I had to listen to my New Englander nieces and nephews whine about nuclear war with North Korea, oblivious to the decades we spent giving Ivan and his real army parked on the edge of half of Germany the hairy eyeball, and the forlorn hope we had sitting in half of Berlin waaaaaaay behind enemy lines.

Dang kids now-a-days, not a clue, so I told them to get off my lawn. Then we went back to drinking craft beer and ignoring Confederate statues, because there aren’t any in New England.

but I don’t think this is going to end well, and there’s not a sensible thing old Don could have said that would have made a lick of difference.
We’ve let the stupid and the crazy go on for too long unchecked.

I’m told a silver plate finished instrumental has a more brilliant tone than brass finished because the silver layer is thinner than the alternative – lacquer put on the brass to keep it from oxidizing. I doubt I’d notice, but I believe professional musicians and amateurs can and do.

I can certainly tell the difference with handbells.

@AliceH
we have a winner!

“Many musicians believe, and rightfully so, that the bare brass gives them the sound that they want. Without a sealant over the brass, the instrument will sound different. The reason is the thickness of the sealant will affect the tone quality or timbre of the instrument. Some musician prefers a silver finish on their instrument for the same reason. The silver finished instrument will sound different (usually more brilliant) because of the fact that the silver plating is much thinner than the spayed on sealant.”

My authority on wind instruments is the lovely Britisher lass Alison Balsom.
Vastly underrated operator. She has white woman’s teeths, non-indigenous version, few such cases!
When the Britbongbongobongistan will be the New Caliphate, she’ll be the one I shall miss.

I generally don’t watch pressers or pol speeches either, I couldn’t even take Ronnie Raygun.
I did love Rumsfeld’s though and I enjoy Trump’s.
He doesn’t speak like other pols, smacking the press around is a nice bonus.

Did you here they vandalized/destroyed a monument claiming it was confederate in Atlanta? Turns out it was a monument to peace.
