Hold me back, boys — I got the chicken jones. Bad.

Today, I talked to a chicken lady. She breeds these things (see arrows).

It’s a Poland bantam. Attentive readers will recall that I WANT ONE OF THESE IN THE WORST WAY. I stole the picture from Your Chickens magazine because I think that’s the color she described to me.

She has them in the incubator now. She’s candled them. They’re kicking. Though she says it takes a little longer to accurately guess the sex of Polands, so it’s going to be two months. At least.

Ordinarily, with Polands, I wouldn’t care if I got a rooster. They look even cooler than the hens. But I don’t think I could bear to have three of the screechy little effers in my garden.

She also does gold partridge pekins, my favorite flavor of pekin. So that’s my fallback.

Two months is perfect. That’s getting on for the beginning of May, when it’ll warm up a little and behbeh chicks can peck around in the grass when it’s sunny.

I AM SO EXCITED, Y’ALL. It’s going to be a long two months. Have a good weekend and dream of little pom pom chickens snoozing in their shells.

She breeds Arrows? (channeling a certain New York Congressmoron ).

What would be the worst way to get one of these (well…never mind…)

My little town has decided that we may now have up to 5 chickens inside city limits. I’ve been chasing them out of my backyard for 2 weeks, until my sister said “You know they eat bugs, right?”….um

“Here chicky, chicky, chicky!”

Do you love the new sofa?

I just looked at a dozen or two images of these nifty birds using, whimsically, DuckDuckGo. Very striking in appearance, they are, and in lots of different colors. HERE is a real beauty in the same color scheme as Stoaty’s soon-to-be-beloved chick.

The new sofa is…a little stiff, Janna. It looks fab, but it’s rough on elderly bottoms.

Let us hope it loosens up a little.

Well, that was spooky, Uncle Al — I had to double check if that photo was off this woman’s actual website. All the chickens in the picture are colors she breeds!

It’s weird to me how few people raise polands. I mean, they’re kind of special needs chickens — those wonderful crests can very much interfere with their eyesight — but they’s such awesome looking birds.

Wowsers!…Them’s some fancy-dancer-lookin’ chooks! –

They tend to put me in mind of a hugely-multi-hued version of Big Bird, that tall, yella-fledged character from “Sesame Street”, only with muchly-added-on topknot poofiness…

How very-interesting…

Best of luck on the hatching-out and initial-raising processes!

Behold my sister’s chicken palace:

She has Polands. Her boy, Goliath is a beauty but he is a screeching asshole

Oh, man, I am so jealous. I really want a big wire run I can stand up in and sweep like a normal person.

These little wooden runs are pretty, but hell to keep clean.
