Welp, I’ve done it
I’ve done it. I’ve taken an oath to the King. I’m sure at least a few of my ancestors are rolling their eyeballs in hell. Here’s what I had to say:
I, Stoaty Weasel, swear by Almighty God that, on becoming a British citizen, I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King Charles III, his Heirs and Successors, according to law.
I will give my loyalty to the United Kingdom and respect its rights and freedoms. I will uphold its democratic values. I will observe its laws faithfully and fulfil my duties and obligations as a British citizen.
I had the option to take the oath in Welsh. Are you ready? Back up:
Yr wyf i, Stoaty Weasel, yn tyngu i Dduw Hollalluog y byddaf i, ar ôl dod yn ddinesydd Prydeinig, yn ffyddlon ac yn wir deyrngar i’w Fawrhydi y Brenin Charles y Trydydd, ei Etifeddion a’i Olynwyr, yn unol â’r gyfraith.
Rhoddaf fy nheyrngarwch i’r Deyrnas Unedig a pharchaf ei hawliau a’i rhyddidau. Arddelaf ei gwerthoedd democrataidd. Glynaf yn ffyddlon wrth ei chyfreithiau a chyflawnaf fy nyletswyddau a’m rhwymedigaethau fel dinesydd Prydeinig.
How is this even a language?
So that’s it. My last bit of British legalese. I’ve already registered to vote and started my passport application.
The process was: biometrics, Fiancee Visa, Further Leave to Remain, Life in the UK Test, Indefinite Leave to Remain, Naturalisation application (with added biometrics!). My prospects as a cat burglar are doomed. I’m sure I’m missing a couple of hoops in there.
If you would like a look down memory lane, the keyword is weaselimportlicense. The very first post is How to get a Weasel Import License, Part the First – October 3, 2008. What a long, strange trip it’s been.
p.s. I love the way both the lion and the unicorn are sticking their tongues out. The lion is doing a full Gene Simmons.
Oh, and Norman Lear has copped it. Congratz to Army Brat and new Dead Pool Friday. These things are getting shorter and shorter.

Well congrats on your new identity! BTW, were you allowed/wanted to keep your US nationality too?

The lion and the unicorn
Were fighting for the crown.
The lion beat the unicorn
All about the town.
Some gave them white bread,
And some gave them brown;
Some gave them plum-cake,
And drummed them out of town
The Lion and the Unicorn
were sticking out their tongues.
We’re here for Uncle’s Fruit Cake
Or maybe Sticky buns!
We draw the line at worm pies
We do not want the runs.
Congratulations Stoaty!
God save the King and all that.

IT’s Ok thefritz, Her Stoatliness now has dual nationality. Not every country allows it but the UK and USA do. And very polished she was doing all the swearing and stuff today. I was quite touched (in the head).

I bet that damn Jimmah Cawduh Peenut Fahmuh is aiming for 112 years old so he can mumble, again, Donald Trump cheated and is NOT legitimate President!
Election denial started with high-level Democrats!

I will uphold its democratic values.
I wonder when that phrase was added. I very much doubt that it was in the oath sworn by the future Lord Astor when he naturalized in 1899.
Apropos of nothing, Lord Astor was a great-grandfather of my pick in DP 146: Nancy Jane Marie Heathcote-Drummond-Willoughby, suo jure 28th Baroness Willoughby de Eresby.

WRT to Dead Pool 172:
thefritz already bagged it with Henry Kissinger on 30 November.

Wait, what? Is it two in a row or have I improperly bagged one?

Looking at the comments to DP 172, I see that:
thefritz picked Henry Kissinger at November 24, 2023, 6:00 pm (3rd pick!). Kissinger died on 11/29.
Armybrat picked Norman Lear at November 25, 2023, 8:57 pm. Lear died on 12/5.
Both were centenarians.

Well.
That tears it. You’ve gone and become one of those that pluralize singular nouns.
I…I just…can’t.

Has it really been that long? I know it has, but I still remember the posts from when you were still living in RI. I feel old, and maybe need a nap.
Strange snippets of old posts keep popping into my head. For example, something about a Flying Weasel after you hit a speed bump. Why is that in there?
