Oh! Oh! I know this one!

You can read the article if you want (graphic is theirs), but the answer is yes. The ‘official’ answer used to be no, but one of my chickens farted once so I knew better.

Then I got wondering whether that was an AI generated image. See how the thigh is in front but the foot lands behind the foot on the other leg? That’s a tell. I have now spent a stupid amount of time trying to get an illustration similar to that out of free AI art generators.

I can tell you “chicken farting” absolutely won’t do it. It resolutely gave me steaming chicken dinners. “Living chicken with feathers farting” was the first prompt that gave me a non-cooked chickens, but no farting. “Living chicken with feathers and smoke coming out of its bottom” got closer, but the smoke came out of everything BUT its bottom. Farting must be on the no-no list.

Nothing blew up today. I was so bummed about this – I’ll be honest with you, if I knew the password to my blog, I’d’ve posted a bored one-liner from my phone rather than bother to boot my computer. Unfortunately, I got paranoid one day and set my password to one of those crypto-approved things like ?~3lkjh4,+_qqola

Tried writing them down?
I once saw something attributed as a Chinese Proverb:

“The faintest ink is better than the best memory.”

But I keep misplacing the slips of paper. Or figure “I’ll remember that password.” Or write down the password without identifying info (site, e-mail, login credential, etc.).

Yep, that was it.

“The faintest ink is better than the best memory.” Now those are some words to live by, OldFert. Thank you.

JavaMan and I use an online password manager (Bitwarden), but I still maintain my old fashioned 3×5 index cards and a recipe file box. And if something changes, I just draw a line through it and add the new info to the card. I do occasionally need the old information, so I hang on to it. I also use index cards/box for my address book.

@Stoaty — What web-based freebie AI image generator do you use or recommend? It’s been a while since I’ve fiddled with that stuff and the three or four I tried seemed awkward and clunky.

Dang, that was one vigorous chicken fart discussion back in 2011.

I write down cryptic reminders but they tend to be a bit too cryptic. Sometimes when I look at the reminder some months later it doesn’t mean a thing.

I googled ‘flatulent chicken’ and it came up with a lot of good images.

We use a simple scheme involving pets or some other thing we can’t possibly forget and a number and a special char.

Works well, till you have 30 accounts and you don’t remember which easy to remember variation you used for which site.

I admit to being an Apple guy since I’m retired and my software doesn’t have to interact with anyone else’s. I have found both fingerprint recognition and face recognition to be a great answer.

Yeah, you still have to create a password, but you don’t have to remember it.

I do like “two-factor” identification where after you enter your password, they send you a text on your phone to verify. It’s probably just more voodoo that doesn’t help, but hey, I feel more secure so good enough.

On the matter of what constitutes a “good” password, you should always remember the classic XKCD strip:
https://xkcd.com/936/
If you google “Correct battery horse staple” you’ll find a lot of generators on the net to help you find an appealing one.

That’s a great tip!
