How historians troll…

detail

This is a nice architectural detail I ran across. It’s from the roof of the Abbey Church of Saint Foy in Conques, France. It might mean God is always listening, or it might just be a bit of fun. Them Medieval types did a surprising amount of the latter.

Speaking of which, do you know how historians troll their underlings? They do things like call out, “Weasel, will you do an images search of ‘sheela na gig’ for me, please?” *quiet snickering heard in the background*

So…the Goatse joke is much, much older than I thought.

There is some figure that they carve in church eaves that is suppose to be over hearing what you say, spying on you more or less. I forgot what they call them. Creepy…

This is awesome! For some reason sheela na gig figures never made it in to any of the art history books I ever looked at.

I’ve been needing, for some time now, to construct a fence along the front of my yard, where it abuts the street and my next-door neighbors’ lots…

Now picturing the sort of “decoration” with which each of the vertical fence supports might be topped –

On second thought – p’raps not even my rather-permissive sort of neighborhood is quite ready for…certain decorative elements…y’know?

First thing I thought of was “Kilroy was here”.

Beware: more than one link in a comment is apt to earn you a trip to the spam filter, where you will remain -- cold, frightened and alone -- until I remember to clean the trap. But, hey, without Akismet, we'd be up to our asses in...well, ass porn, mostly.
