I know some of Drudge‘s juxtapositions are deliberate, like setting global warming stories alongside record cold snap stories. But even he doesn’t control the dials and levers of fate.

Anybody else amused to see the headline about Imus losing his MSNBC gig for using the expression “nappy headed ho’s” is dominated by a picture of this woman, an actual NHH? >>>>

No, me neither. Because some day, I dream of working for MSNBC.

Oh, like you don’t.

Future historians: Don Imus is a boor and a fraud and a radio personality, in that order, who made a living saying unfunny and offensive things on air. He referred to the Rutgers women’s basketball team as “nappy-headed hos,” because…because he’s a jerk, I guess. Why that tripped the Uh-Oh Meter when nothing else he’s said in the last thirty years did, I do not know. But it did. Earning him, so far, a two-week suspension from his radio gig and a permanent ban on his simulcast on MSNBC television.

The woman, meanwhile, is Crystal Gail Mangum, an exotic dancer who last year accused several members of Duke University’s lacrosse team of rape. On examination, she was found stuffed full of exotic DNA, none of which belonged to any member of the lacrosse team. When questioned, she told a variety of incompatible stories. That was good enough for the DA, who knew that the confused recollection of an exotic dancer of color with a history of mental problems always trumps physical evidence plus the sworn statements of clean-cut white college boys. All charges were dropped yesterday and today Duke and the DA’s office are nailing plywood over the windows in anticipation of the tsunami of lawsuits sure to follow.

This case was a travesty to begin with. The Duke boys (and their parents and lawyers) handled it perfectly. They stood firm against the media, the PC crowd, their own highly biased school academia, and the liberal/feminist idiots.

They cooperated fully and completely, didn’t tell a single lie, and refused to bow down. meanwhile, the “victims” story unraveled like…well..uh…things that unravel a lot.

What’s interesting is that the PC/academia/idiots still refuse to grant that the only “crime” was committed by the opportunistic “victim”. In their eyes, the crime was “Having fun while White&Male.”

I used to listen to Imus in my younger, more liberaler years. I think he made that statement because he was trying to prove that he was “Hip” & “With It”. It’s been pointed out in lots of places that popular rap and hip-hop songs are loaded with stuff far more derogatory to black women than what he’s ever said. Obviously Imus failed to realize was that a 100 year old white dude can’t use terms that black rappers use – even if he is a popular liberal with lots of liberal media “friends”. As to “why now?” I think that the Michael Richards thing, the Duke Lacrosse thing and the Obama candidacy have contributed to pegging the Racial-Sensitivity-Freak-Out-O-Meter to eleven and the liberal media have done their best to nail it there. When the Sharpton shaped shit-shtorm shtruck Imus probably thought his proven liberal credentials and media friends would shield him. How wrong he was eh?

Don’t get me wrong – what Imus said was utterly inappropriate and stupid. But, that’s what you get when you’re part of the crowd always trying to be “edgy”; there’s only so much edge there and you can fall off.

True dat. Or should that be “word”?

I think he contributed to the problem by the cringe-worthy performance he put on yesterday. Obviously, I’m no fan, but he didn’t need to grovel like that. Certainly not to two men famous for the asshole stuff they’ve said over the years. How about, “look, you babble unscripted for several hours a day for thirty years, and you’re bound to say some very stupid stuff.”

I listened to him ages ago, too. I was shocked at the sound of his voice yesterday. He sounded a thousand years old. I’m told he has some sort of lung problem and is often on oxygen. Ulch. That would keep me from listening right there.

Howie Carr was happily rolling around in it yesterday. Carr used to needle Imus about his age, so Imus struck back by repeating a rumor he’d heard from Mike Barnacle that Carr’s wife had had an affair with boxer Riddick Bowe. It’s not true and she’s not a public figure, so it was an easy judgement. Howie bought a condo with the proceeds.
