Guts!

guts

You may recall I took a course in Advanced Chickenology last year. I was so impressed with the platform that I promised myself I’d take more. Well, I ain’t got around to it…until now. I’m taking a course in guts!

You may have noticed that gut bacteria is, like, the current fad science, holding out hope for everything from weight loss to depression. Well, I’m skeptical, but I’m also interested.

Today was the first day, and it turns out…biochemistry is kinda hard! Who knew? So while I struggle with my homework, a few interesting gut facts:

  • By number of cells in your body, you have 10% human cells and 90% bacteria
  • By number of genes, you are 1% to .1% human. The ‘biome’ refers to the genes in your bacteria
  • You share 99.99% of the same human genes with the person sitting next to you, but you probably share about 10% of your biome (you special snowflake you)

No doubt, I’ll overshare gut facts over the next six weeks. But I’m just auditing it this time. Who the hell wants a certificate in guts?

If they teach you how to make sausages, it will be worth it. 🙂

I learned more today about all the interesting graveyards in the UK. https://twitter.com/gravedetective
I like the headstone for the dog & the cat; the lady who “liked a good book” and some poor kid named Ughthred.

ps: Rocket launch at 7:21pm EST or in 20 minutes.

I read somewhere that humans have as many nerve cells in their gut area as in their brains. I think the intention was to point out that gut feelings may have some intelligence behind them. But I got the impression that the writer had his head up his arse.

I use to work in surgery. You should try holding someone’s guts and feel them move. 🙂

Everything is nice and squeaky clean in there. 🙂

Okay, have to be honest, I did not need that image with my morning coffee. “Look coffee! That’s where you’re going now!”

Ahem.

The facts were very cool though so please keep ’em coming.

But I got the impression that the writer had his head up his arse.

Did that increase his IQ possibly?
