I am now officially cooler than all y’all
Oh my god, you guys — I have wanted one of these since…since it was invented. That’s maybe 20 years ago now. It’s a monitor, but you draw directly on it.
Maybe that doesn’t sound all that keen, but it solves the big problem with computer tablet: you can look at your hand, or you can look at the monitor, but you can’t look at both at once. That makes it extremely hard to draw. Or write legibly.
As with other tablets, the main brand is Wacom and their monitor version is the Cintiq. And that sucker, in its 20″ form, is almost £2,000.
Enter the Chinese. I’ve bought a cheap knockoff — for all I know, made in the same factory as the Cintiq — for less than a quarter of the price. And it came with a snazzy glove. Well, part of one.
It came this morning. I was going to use it as a second monitor, but I’m awfully tempted to use it as my only monitor. It is Just That Good.
My main concern is going blind. No, really…I’m sitting with my nose practically pressed against the screen. And I’m loving it. My optomowotsit told me that my eyes weren’t deteriorating, they were just…stuck in the peasant lace-makers position from all the close work I do.
p.s. That is not my computer. It is not my hand. I stole them from here, and added my chicken. Because that’s the kind of thing you can do really fast WHEN YOU HAVE AN AWESOME MONITOR TABLET!!!

I bet when you were a kid you used to draw all over the TV when Winky Dink came on.
The idea has been around forever. Glad to see that there’s a functional, affordable iteration out finally.
PS – What is the half glove for??

Never shopped for one of these, but I see the 16″ diagonal model from Huion for under $160 online

I have a vague recollection of some gizmo from the 50s where you put plastic on your tv screen and kids could draw on it.

So….
this is a computer image generated by a former MI-6 Agent of Donald Trump drawing porn, which YOU replaced with your chicken.
Right?
You can tell us, we’re just Russian bots anyway.

Definitely cooler than me. And the snazzy glove keeps your hand off the glass. Way cool that you replaced whatever image was there with a chicken.

Oh, those things. Yeah, I have about a dozen. I use them as TV dinner trays.

Computer glasses (AKA gaming glasses) are a thing. Light tinting and minor magnification. Usually a brownish amber tint to “block blue and save your eyes”.

Oooooo…I am so jealous. I had a Wacom years ago and it rocked…but yer right, the hand & screen thing was a pain in the ass. I can’t imagine how fun that one is.

I picked up a Windows laptop this weekend and it can fold its screen all the way over to be a portable version of this. I even picked up a pen for it.

Drew:it keeps the weasel grease off the glass. Totally unnecessary as I am a dessicated old broad.

@DurnedYankee – I love that guy’s work…it feels familiar, like I’ve seen it before, maybe in dreams or something :+)
I’ve got 2 of his books of prints…they’re available on Amazon…most of his stuff is on his website too though, you can see a higher resolution version of the pictures if you click on them.

@Quasimodo –
I rarely get “art” books, but I have to say I was SORELY tempted, and still am, to get his.
Having looked at the pictures I wanted to know what the heck the story was!
I can guess, and did, and was close, but that’s not the same as knowing.
And you’re right, there’s something about those images that are hauntingly dreamlike, though in mine whatever I was trying to accomplish there would be diverted by the usual dream squirrels.
So thank you so much for the introduction to the artist!

@DurnedYankee – You’re welcome!…glad you like his work too :+) I can spend hours looking at his art. I’m the same as you…his art books are the first art books I ever owned!
The books do tell some of the story of what’s going on…I won’t spoil it for you though :+) There’s some talk about movies/TV show/video games…hope they go through with it! You can find news of what’s going on with him on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Simon_Stalenhag/
