Settling in nicely

Forgive bad cellphone pic; the phone doesn’t make a scary noise when it takes a snapshot.

We’re doing fine, fine. No hostility. I might get a gentle hiss and a little flinch first thing in the morning, but he soon turns into a cuddle-bug.

Likes: chicken, tuna, string, giant stinky dumps.
Dislikes: loud sounds and sudden movements.

I’ll keep you posted.

I was going to say “noisome dumps” because I’ve always understood noisome to be stinky, as in “noisome swamps”. And, indeed, you get a kzillion hits on “noisome swamp” but when you ask for a definition, it says noisy.

‘Noisome’ – smelly
‘noisesome’ – um, noisey.

We only do it to piss-off the French.

Then it’s well worth doing, Uncle B. A small gesture, perhaps, but worthwhile.

Uncle B has it right (no surprise there!).

About 20 years ago I splurged and bought the Oxford English Dictionary on CD-ROM. Best “software” purchase I ever made (most expensive, too, at something over $400). I don’t think it’s available any longer because the Oxford Press is flogging online subscription access for a renewable revenue stream.

Anyway, here’s what the OED has to say:

noisome, a.
(ˈnɔɪsəm)
[f. noy n.1 or v. + -some.]
1. Harmful, injurious, noxious.
2. Offensive to the sense of smell; ill-smelling.
3. Disagreeable, unpleasant, offensive.
4. Annoying, troublesome. Obs. rare.

I think all four meanings fit stinky cat poop pretty well.

EDIT: p.s. Some might find it interesting that the earliest quotation in the OED for the word is from the late 14th century.

Sounds very promising. Handsome little fella. Any updates from Charlotte or Jack?

He likes giant stinky dumps? Then I’ll send you some pictures of the Trashmore Mountain range north of Dallas. Funny, when we moved here 30 years ago it was pretty much a flood plain. Now I think either Aztecs or Babylonians have moved in and are are laying the mound for foundations of ziggurat temples. 30 years worth of trash makes for impressive many story piles, masked by dirt though they may be.
But those are by definition giant stinky dumps.

There is a semi-feral cat in our neighborhood that has been a regular house guest for some years. He shares his time among a couple of families.

Hangs around with us in the house, eats, plays, takes naps, etc., but will only do his business outdoors, which is fine with us.

Also prefers to stay out all night, except during wintertime, he’ll be on our bed.

A handsome fellow. White-and-black cats often are.

Sorry, last comment got mangled in saving. Trying again.

What a sweet face. I have two mostly black tuxies, Al Jolson M and Sy Oliver M. Al is short hair, Sy is long. The baby of the group is an all white short hair with blue eyes, Bing Crosby M.

I hope your new little guy settles in well and doesn’t put the bitey on anyone else.

Funny you should say that, Felix. He has the exact face of a cat used to advertise a catfood called Felix here.

Or is Felix an American brand…?

I don’t remember seeing it anywhere. The only thing I’ve used for a couple decades is Purina One. The current group love the salmon version, two of them don’t care for the chicken version. So I just stick with salmon. They eat some fishy canned food every few days. I buy everything from Chewy.com.

I’ve had a total of 8 cats on exclusively / mostly Purina One, all very healthy.

And his face is *really* great. Love those Theda Bara mascara lines on his eyes.
