The borough (county) elected criminals enacted a burn ban here as well. In Alaska. In winter. With heating oil over 3 bucks a gallon and temps between -25 & – 40 F. All they managed to do is create a county of scofflaws. I’m one of ’em. I can heat my house with the woodstove for about 30 dollars a year or with the oil fired furnace for 1500. No brainer.

I rather expect that the recent rash of Leftist regulations is not driven by the government in power, but rather by the bureaucracy. Just as here half the GOPe are really Democrats and share contempt for Deplorables, much of your Tories are really wanna-be Commissars. The bureaucracy has been hard core Leftist for generations. They see a Tory government that might actually mean to do some things [not everything, but some] that would upset the Left. They have already done the worst thing possible in the Left’s view by declaring independence from a foreign dictatorship Labour loves. So you see the Leftist bureaucracy doing everything within their own administrative power to attack the Tories and their voters both to demonstrate their power and demoralize the Tories and to create more things that the Tories will have to roll back before they get to the heart of the Labour program to counterattack.

I suspect that in the long run, in both our countries, politics are going to get downright Clausewitzian as electoral politics has less and less influence on actual policy.

CA no longer allows wood burning fireplaces in new homes. You can grandfather one in if you renovate. A friend demolished a derelict house but retained a wall with the fireplace so he could have a wood stove. Now the greenies are making noises about banning natural gas and propane…in a state with immense gas reserves. Idiots all.
