Dishwasher broke

New one Friday. I’m okay with that. I don’t mind doing dishes for a few days.

The picture is not actually my sink, though. I spent most of my life without a dishwasher and I learned that the easiest approach is to wash things as you use them, as much as you can, so you don’t end up with a giant, depressing pile of them to do at the end of the day.

Of course, that’s easier with one.

My mother used to sing the Dirty Dishes Blues while she did dishes. It’s not an especially good song. I don’t particularly like it. I’m just saying it brings back memories.

Well, you could try a more bluesy one:

There’s too many dirty dishes, in the sink for just us two
I say there’s too many dirty dishes, baby in the sink for just us two
Well you got me wonderin’ baby, who’s makin’ dirty dishes with you

I go to work in the mornin’, I come right home every night
When I leave the sink is empty, and when I come back home
My baby got ’em stacked up out of sight

There’s too many dirty dishes, baby in the sink for just us two
Well you got me wonderin’, got me wonderin’ baby
Who’s making dirty dishes with you

I cleaned your dirty dishes, how much more am I supposed to take?
When I left I had fruit loops for breakfast
Now there’s a bone from a T-bone steak, y’all

And there’s too many dirty dishes, baby in the sink for just us two
Well you got me wonderin’, you got me wonderin’ baby
Who’s makin’ dirty dishes with you

Well you got me wonderin’, you got me wonderin’ baby
Who’s makin’ dirty dishes with you

Which you can listen to at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4qYXIHNydA
but he takes well over a minute to get to the actual words. . .

I’d never heard of this guy Dethy Borchardt and now that I’ve listened to his Kitchen Blues I’m definitely going to see/listen to what else he does. He is very, very, veryveryvery good. If you like blues (and I do).

This is an instrumental number, and the only “kitchen” connection is that the video is shot in his kitchen. He starts out easy and then just takes off…stick with it (it’s only 3:15 long).

Here’s the chorus I sing for dirty dishes.

“O life is a toil,
And love is a trouble,
Beauty will fade
And riches will flee,
Wages will dwindle
And prices will double
And nothing is as I
Would wish it to be.”

We had a dishwasher, which broke, and then went on using the sink for about 10 years (as an aside if you want to mess with someone you’re unhappy with, squirt some Dawn Dish Soap into their dishwasher soap dispenser…hilarious…ask my sons how I know….)

We finally got the washer fixed, and we’re with you Stoaty, we end up doing the few we use by hand right after use and they dry in the rack in the sink. Chopsticks are easy! Until we’re being lazy, or have company or are cooking a honking big meal.
