Good weekend!

Storm Arwen is apparently beating up the North pretty badly. Down here? Eh. Nothing much. We might see some flurries tomorrow, which would be nice.

Still, we’re tapped out in front of the fire, warm and dry and we ain’t even had leftovers yet. Good luck getting me to move.

Have a good weekend, all!

In turkey coma.

Again.

I floated around in my pool today with my husband screaming at the vultures circling overhead “she’s alive damn you! She just has extended turkey coma.”

@Armybrat—I am so envious. The only thing I miss about San Antonio is the little pool in our courtyard. Now I have a huge backyard and JavaMan resolutely refuses to consider another pool. He was the grouchiest pool boy evah.

For Thanksgiving we had pinto beans, cornbread, and about 4 pounds of fried potatoes. The potatoes, I’d like to note, were fried in a 4 inch deep cast iron skillet, in about 2 inches of Crisco and *fresh bacon grease. I won’t do that again for at least another year! (Not a turkey coma, but close.)

*because I fried a pound of bacon to go in the bean pot 🙂

*Sigh* The lack of turkey & stuffing for sandwiches regret begun it has.

Glad you’re safe & warm Stoaty…the Aberdonians look to have gotten the worst of Arwen, thus far.

Arwen dumped a LOT of snow, huh. I hope some of it fell on the ski resorts. I guess UK farmers love nitrogen-rich snow as much as panhandle wheat farmers. Saves a lot of money. Glad you are all snug at Badger House.

@deborah HH. I started drooling at the mention of cornbread, pinto beans and potatoes fried in bacon grease!

Any thoughts on using a sagey sausage stuffing mix (left overs) with a creamy sawmill gravy over biscuits?

Is that like Milo Minderbinder trying to sell chocolate covered Egyptian cotton balls?

@Durned…I could choke that down. My Gran often made biscuits & sausage gravy for Gramp’s breakfast. While we kiddos suffered in oatmeal purgatory…but Gramps would sneak us a forkful when she wasn’t looking.

LOL! I recently quipped to a younger friend who was getting the run around from a city official that maybe the guy was like Major Major. Bovine stare.

Last week when I picked one of the pooches up from the dog groomer, I asked when the next group wash was. She looked in the book and said “Dec 7th, do you need a card?” I replied, “No, that’s a date that will live in infamy.” Bovine stare. I didn’t even go there.

It’s odd watching the culture shift and our touchstones disappear in the winds of change. It all seems so dumbed down. Maybe I’m just a cranky old fart.

@thefritz.. I read a story that a train was stranded in Aberdeenshire. They reported plenty of fuel for heat, drink and food and to tide them over made beds in the pub for day passengers…a high old time was being had by all.

If you’ve got a waffle iron, throw a scoop of the dressing in and make a “waffle.” I have a friend that does this and spoons on the leftover cranberry relish for brunch the weekend after. So damn good she now actually makes an extra batch of stuffing just for the waffles.
