A tale of two teacups

The one on the left has been through the dishwasher a bajillion times. The one on the right hasn’t.

Not the most interesting post ever, but at least it isn’t bloody livestock again!

Is it Friday yet…?

One of the first things that came to mind was Jim Croce singing ” … if I could save time in a bottle …”

I should make it clear these were once identical teacups. It’s even more striking in color.

I had to replace a rare Starbucks mug because of the washer thing.

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, you all hate Starbucks. I was there when it was just one funky coffee shop. I’m so Seattle I have a tile at The Market.

Most of my cups display a variety of dishwasher erosion, probably because I run every load on heavy. But my Stoaty Weasel cup is still pretty shiny! I only use when I add milk to my coffee or tea, or make a cup of hot chocolate.

Mugs don’t live long enough here to fade away, I’m hard on the china.

Besides, we coffee now out of the Yeti mugs, and their knockoff competitions with the cute slogans about being a well trained Pomchee owner. The words of which are also wearing off, but from hand washing, because the boss lady doesn’t let me wash the thermal craftware in the dish smasher.

We unconsciously solved this problem by giving our good stuff to nieces and nephews. We drink and eat from and with decent enough things, but nothing that has any significant sentimental, much less market, value. So it all goes in the dishwasher and gradually fades or gets etched in the case of glass items. There are more important issues to occupy our minds, such as what’s for dinner.

In the last few years of her life, my mother said, “screw it – life is too short to wash dishes” and ate off of paper plates ever after.
