Happy T’day!
I checked the exchange rate – £94 to £124 is $119.25 to $157.31. For a turkey.
To be fair, this is from a very special local farm but, I mean, how special can a turkey be? We always get the smallest bird available, which is about ten pounds in weight, and last year (from this same poncy farm) it was around £60. And we felt ripped off.
I think we’re getting a supermarket bird in protest this year. Anyway, that’s Christmas – for tonight, we had the butcher make us a turkey roll. We do Thanksgiving as an evening meal, so we’ll be firing it all up shortly.
Honestly, I think Uncle B is a more enthusiastic keeper of Turkey Day than I am.

I have finally given up on a traditional Thanksgiving here in the Philippines. Canned cranberry sauce? Rare and expensive. Frozen turkeys? Same as cranberries. Yams or sweet potatoes? Nope, not to be found. Pumpkin pie? Yeah, right, good luck with that.
This year, we went with two large roasted chickens, mashed potatoes with gravy, vegetable melody (corn, peas, spinach), and ice cream for dessert. It was very nice and very delicious.

Yes, I was willing to go with a nice meal that *wasn’t* turkey, but Uncle B overruled.

Tim,
Tradition (TRADITIOOOON!) is great but that is one tasty spread right there.
Honestly, a good roast chicken might be superior to turkey. Turkey breast gets a little bland and dry on farm raised birds what with them all bulked out like ‘roided up gym rats. And as long as there are spuds and giblet gravy I have no need of other tubers.
Happy Thanksgiving to our great host Stoaty and all the mustilid fanciers around the globe!

There is something special in the air here in America, here in the South, here in the Commonwealth of Virginia…
More ready smiles, more relaxed and happy, more “Happy Thanksgiving!” to total strangers…
I don’t know what’s going on but it smells like MAGA !!!

Tim, it’s the spirit that matters!
And sounds like you have it!
Hours spent prepping, and zoom, we’re done in a little over 20 minutes, no house full of gabby nurse aunts, and machinist uncles, and no kids waiting to be old enough to be seated with the adults.
And I realize we’re our parents now.
Still, the food was good, and no one voted wrong in the last election 😁
And no one said “Happy Friendsgiving!”
So happy Thanksgiving to all, everywhere, no matter what you ate!

It was a Happy Thanksgiving indeed, as I trust all your’s were as well!
My niece, an OUTSTANDING cook, fed us splendidly with just a few contributions from the rest of us. Burrrp! Ahhhh!

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Here at the el rancho, we gave up on turkey and dressing when the boys were little, and now grill up several pounds of beef and chicken fajitas, with all the trimmings, fresh guacamole, locally made tortillas from the little mexican ladies at the Catholic Church, all the ice cold Schlitz beer you could ask for, and homemade key lime pie for desert. If you make it more than once, it’s “traditional”, right?

Just had my first cold turkey sandwich of the season!
I stick to the classic-
Toasted wheat bread, good mayonnaise, a mix of white and dark meat liberally seasoned with salt and cracked pepper and, of course, crisp lettuce.
I’ve heard there are variations that are also delicious, but I’m one of those “that old time religion cold turkey sandwich is good enough for me” guys.

@Some Vegetable — Cold turkey sammiches are great! But I enjoy just as much a hot open faced turkey with gravy and a side of mashed potatoes. And a big slice of pumpkin pie with whipped cream!

Maybe we could resurrect Les Nesman from WKRP and have him bomb your house with turkeys that he thought could fly?
Or maybe just import some from the New England states where the hives are being invaded by wild turkeys that attack the local citizens!

As always, our turkey was free. It’s our grocery store’s holiday thing. Free turkey up to 26lb, or free ham up to 20lb, or free giant kosher chicken or money off a name brand ham or turkey.
