Abundance!

Okay, okay…it doesn’t look like much, but it’s the finest fish counter I’ve ever seen. It makes a little more sense in color. I didn’t use the panorama setting on my camera (hm…does my camera have a panorama setting?), I just stood in one spot and took three pictures, which is why it looks wonky and stupid. It’s a wraparound three counters and a stunning display.

Fish is hella expensive (I bought a lunch-sized lump of cod for £7.50), but it’s worth it when it’s this good. Nice people, too.

About that cod: I did an air fryer experiment. AI told me to give it 8 – 13 minutes at full blow. I gave it 17 and still thought it could’ve used some more. It was the right temperature, per the meat thermometer, but I like my cod a little dry.

Drizzled melted butter over the top, covered in breadcrumbs and 17 minutes. Very nice. Two bones, and I’m pretty sure I swallowed one.

What a gorgeous display! I’m not sure I’d know where to start! But if that’s a big fat squid in front on the left, I might go for that. However, that sole is just begging to be eaten. Lovely!

p.s. Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys has died, age 82. He was not a DP pick though. RIP

It’s beautiful, and I know I could find something delicious to eat, but it weirds me out to see the variety of fish all laid out, overlapping each other. I’ve never seen all kinds of raw poultry displayed side by side, or rib-eyes sitting on the ground round.

What I miss is fresh shrimp. When Javaman and I lived in San Antonio, some times on a weekend morning we’d leave early and drive two hours to Corpus Christi. We’d eat shrimp for lunch, go to the beach all afternoon, eat shrimp for supper, then drive home again. Sometimes we spent the night then we could have shrimp and grits for breakfast. My favorite meal was an icy cold shrimp cocktail and an icy cold martini. 🙂

I won’t lie, before I enlarged the photo I thought it was a diorama of, maybe Waterloo, or The battle of Baden Hill.
Then I saw the word fish, and thought…how entertaining a battle diorama made with fish! Innovative! Creative!

I need cataract surgery.

Remember when fish was good for you but no one knew and you could get it cheap?
Was it black cod? You could eat that raw instead of cooking it.
I have to admit, I eat more raw fish now than cooked fish.
Except a good corn breaded catfish…..mmmmmmmmmmm, and hush puppies.
And Deborah HH – steamed shrimp with lemon and cocktail sauce I could eat from sunrise to sunset with the shrimp grits
follow-on the next day!

For fun, cut the cod into one inch cubes and boil until done.
Serve with melted butter and lemon and you have a reasonable substitute for lobster.
If you make it to east central Florida, hit Dixie Crossroads in Titusville for fresh shrimp and other seafood.

I’m deathly allergic to shellfish and fish. I swear I needed my EpiPen just looking at your picture. Hubby, on the other hand, is not allergic and said “I’d hit that.” I think that’s a compliment.
