Wow! Who knew the British liked pumpkins that much. Is pumpkin pie a desirable thing, or will all the pumpkins be sacrificed to the Jack-O-Lantern?

I live in a pumpkin crazy town, festival and all. I’ve sliced more pumpkin rolls for the 4H club than I care to remember. Pumpkin fest weekend is a traffic nightmare. Not a big fan of pumpkins anymore.

I like pumpkin just fine within limits. I love a slice of pumpkin pie after Halloween, at Thanksgiving, at Christmas dinner, and on my birthday. Period. More than those four pieces of pie, and my enjoyment takes a nosedive. And I despise the Big Spice equivalent of Hallmark Cards who have stoked this nauseating pumpkin spice mania. I do not want pumpkin spice Peeps. I do not want pumpkin spice donuts. I do not want pumpkin spice candles. And I sure as hell do not want pumpkin spice car air fresheners. I’m about crazy enough to give somebody an involuntary pumpkin spice enema. Gaaaaah!

It is my understanding – correct me if I’m wrong – that the pumpkin sold as pumpkin pie filling is actually butternut squash. Ornamental pumpkins are inedible.

I can’t say for sure, but I made a pie out of Halloween pumpkin one year and it was awful.
