Here we go again

I have just had a call from my GP office. My cholesterol is high. My cholesterol is always high, so we have this conversation every few years. I go back in three months for another blood test, so I’m asking Grok what foods lower cholesterol. He say
Oats and barley (fine, fine)
Beans and legumes (cool beans)
Nuts (e.g., almonds, walnuts, pistachios) (mmm mmm)
Avocados (awesome)
Fatty fish (e.g., salmon, mackerel, sardines) (good)
Fruits and vegetables high in fiber (e.g., apples, berries, Brussels sprouts, eggplant) (no problemo)
It says it takes a month for dietary changes to make level changes, but I’ve gotten results in the past leaning on oatmeal for a week. Let me be clear: I do not care about my cholesterol levels, but I don’t want to go on statins and I’m tired of having this conversation with my doctor.
I think also dark chocolate, green tea and chia seeds. All fine.
Any other ideas? I ain’t eating Benecol for nobody.

I don’t know how NHS works with prescription meds, but if you get statins for no charge (as is frequently the case here in the U.S. with prescription drug insurance) you might consider picking them up from your pharmacy and NOT TAKING THEM. You could string your doctor along for YEARS while he tries different statins and puzzles over why those darn drugs just aren’t having any effect.
Meanwhile, enjoy an occasional steak and egg breakfast!

The “absolute” reduction in risk proclaimed from statins is very very small … according to some screwtoob doctors… and meta analysis – I’ve never read the studies and I’ve had high cholesterol measurements – my dr. said STATINS I said no got my CAC which was zero and my dr. piped down … and research also shows that older people have LOWER mortality with higher cholesterol … hmmmmm it’s almost like statins are the highest income generating drugs in the world… but I’m not noticing that – https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10982736/ – Absolute risk reduction (ARR) from statins varies but is generally modest, with meta-analyses showing around 0.8% for all-cause mortality, 1.3% for heart attacks (MI), and 0.4% for strokes, translating to significant relative risk reductions (e.g., 29% for MI) but smaller absolute gains, especially in lower-risk individuals, requiring personalized risk assessment for optimal decision-making. Higher-risk patients, particularly those with existing heart disease or plaque (CAC > 400), see greater absolute benefits, potentially reaching 4-8% ARR, notes – oh and Uncle Al is a genius with that suggestion

Let me know too.
I’m now doctorized after 15 years of myob.
Now, as Arlo Guthrie observed, I’m being c-lected, d-tected, in-jected, and in-fected and they ain’t leaving no part untouched.
Started on the statins weeks ago or so, I’ll let ya know Friday if it made a damn bit of difference.

Statins wrecked me.
I spent every day in searing pain and it went away when I stopped taking them.
I’m taking Zetia. Which is redueces serum lipids by a different pathway.
Niacin at high does works. It used to be a first line treatment.
There’s also cholestramine, a special fiber you take like Metamucil that keep the cholesterol in your gut.
Good luck!

Meds free?
I wonder if your taxes are high enough?
I had a big twitter argument with a Brit girl that refused to recognize that “the government” didn’t pay for health care, her taxes paid for it. She was a total brick on the subject. Concrete!

Ignore the doctor. Our entire brain is wrapped in cholesterol. Cholesterol is throughout our bodies. Statins are nothing but an answer to a non-existent problem.
I had an aunt whose cholesterol was in the 400s! We used to laugh and say she was a ticking timebomb. She lived into her late 80s.
Not sure if B.B. Maguire has done a show on statins yet, but go to Rumble.com and look for “Doses of Deception.” She is a nurse of 35 years and researches medical topics like no one else.
