Well, I can’t read THAT

I had an eye test today – same guy who flagged my torn retina before. This was just regular old eye test for a new prescription, though. He said I’m aging backwards – my eyes improved.
Same thing happened to my dad – his distance vision got better as he aged.
I watched him fiddling with the levers and knobs and thought, “I know a job AI could do, no problemo.” Although when I asked, he said there were all sorts of automated systems that could do the work with 80% accuracy, but the company liked to have a human being to blame. Replace that, robot boy!
To be honest, I just took this picture to read the prescription – they give it to you on a little teeny card now. Good weekend!

One of the seldom mentioned very useful functions of fondle-slabs (smart phones), is just what you did, stoaty. Take a pic of something in tiny print or inaccessible in situ.
Not an hour ago Auntie AL asked me what the little placard just inside the door of the clothes dryer said. It was low to the floor, at an awkward angle, printed with yellow characters on a brown background, and impossible to read unless you were a dwarf with 20/15 vision.
So I took a picture. Clear as a bell. Problem solved.
It was all very predictable so I won’t bore you all the lawyer warnings. One of these days, I’d like to see someone with a sense of humor write one of these placards, and maybe warn owners not to climb inside the drum to clean the lint filter, and not to dry small children or pets even on the LOW/GENTLE setting.

Once everyone is totally dependent on AI, it’s going to start lying it’s ass off and cause total chaos.
Have a nice weekend! 🙂

Dryer lint is not for everybody.
Do not eat the dryer lint if you are allergic to dryer lint.
May cause hallucinations, constipation, scurvy, dropsy, pepsi, moxie, rheumatism, ague, and other medical issues confined to the fine print sections including, but not limited to, death.
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before ingesting dryer lint.

I’m actually kind of excited to get variable-range, or whatever you call them, readers! I didn’t even know they were a thing. Supposed to let me see from about a foot out to about 4 feet or so, and tuned for screens. I like my own eyeballs for up close work, or the magnifier on the galaxy phone (which is nuts!)

Yup. Many times I’ve used my phone to read a menu with small text in a low light restaurant. Indispensable.
Re AI: I read today that a study found that when you ask AI “are you sure?” It’ll change its mind 60% of the time. Yikes.
