Weasie, hopefully the enemedia in the UK will show the fireworks planned for D.C. on Saturday evening. According to Glenn Beck (who did an exhaustive report on the average number of mortars set off on average displays). Macy’s sets off 85,000 fireworks; Washington has 850,000 on tap! Trump has billed it the biggest fireworks display in history.

We’ll try to find it on YouTube afterwards and cast it to the big TV.

Special plans? Stay home in Sarasota County, relax in my La-Z-Boy recliner, enjoy AC coolth, and watch the fireworks on YouTube. We’re leaning towards dining on that quintessentially American food, pizza. But we may opt instead for Chinese.

Watching the newbies spend a buttload of money on fireworks they’re not going to be able to see untill mid August. Some yahoo will start a wildfire this weekend….

I m going to spend the night re-reading Thomas Jefferson’s first draft for the Declaration, which is in many ways better than the final version.

As far as fireworks; an area of Colorado literally the size of the City and County of Denver is one massive wildfire with zero percent containment. Our state has been under red flag warnings [extreme wildfire danger] for a couple of weeks and except for the idiots in Aurora, Colorado fire works have been banned. I suspect that anyone trying to set off fireworks around here will get a dose of Thumpazine followed by a Stompazine suppository. The fire is about 30-40 miles away and we have been breathing smoke for a while. But the wind [literally 100 mph at times] is taking it away from us.

Hubby are in the middle of a road trip to see some family, a lot of old friends and have some fun. So far we’ve managed to spend time with family without shooting any of them, mined for diamonds in AR, did a tour and bought mash at the Tabasco factory and we’re now sat in NOLA where we will visit the WW2 museum for the next 2 days. I’m not at all fond of NOLA…I have a life threatening shellfish allergy and it’s VERY difficult for me to find a place I can eat here…not to mention that NOLA is just a shithole. But we’ve heard great things about the museum so I decided I was willing to risk my life to see it.

If you two are interested in such things as NOLA’s WWII Museum and haven’t already done so, you might want to make a stop in Mobile on the way home and visit the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park with its museum, the submarine USS Drum, and of course tour the awesome battleship itself. The Alabama and Drum are National Historic Landmarks. Highly recommended!

p.s. The battleship is awesome for its size and power, but the sub is equally awesome when you realize that over 80 men would cram together inside, cruise for thousands of miles looking for enemy vessels, then close the hatches, dive beneath the surface of the ocean, and shoot at ships that were shooting back. Brr-rr-rr!

The missus and I had a good time doing the hop on/hop off bus tour of Nawlins. Highly recommended.

Also second the Alabama museum and tour. This was a surprise discovery as we were driving thru to Florida the same year. For some reason we had taken into our heads the idea of a road trip thru the South downtown to Florida and back. Interesting trip, but I’ve seen as much of the Deep South now as I need to.

Hubby and I did the hop on/hop off buss some years ago and agree that it was a good time. We’ve been many times to NOLA, just hadn’t made it to the WW2 museum before. We haven’t made time for the Alabama and museum so we may do that this trip. We head to Biloxi tomorrow to see an old friend and then just north of Atlanta to see more family.
