I don’t really do omens

As I walked into town yesterday, this piece of paper was lying on the path, right in font of me. The rest of the children’s book was on the side of the path maybe 25 feet up the road.

What does it meeeeeean?

Did I tell you I lost all my cards last week? I was keeping them in my phone case, went for one and found they’d all fallen out. Debit card, credit card, gym membership, bus pass…all of them. Except my library card.

Turns out in the year of our Lord 2026, it’s super easy to deal with this. The gym handed me a new card on the spot, the banking app has a button you push to say “I lost my card” and even the bus pass ponied up after I paid a small fee.

I have them all in hand now except a credit card. And they’re all in a proper wallet.

Have a good weekend, everyone. Another hot dry one here.

In the past I would have gone to the pub sat down with my good fellows and with a pint in hand long pondered over this question. However since my ASBO makes entering my Local difficult these days I just asked A.I.

What god or goddess watches over Weasels? and here’s what I learned.

Greek Mythology

Hecate The goddess of magic, witchcraft, and crossroads has the strongest association with weasels. Weasels served as her sacred familiars. According to Antoninus Liberalis’s Metamorphoses, a servant named Galanthis was transformed into a weasel after interfering with the birth of Hercules. Hecate took pity on her and appointed her as her sacred servant, establishing the weasel’s connection to the goddess. Another tale tells of a sorcerer named Gale who was turned into a weasel by Hecate in anger.

Aphrodite The goddess of love also has a mythological connection to weasels. There’s a story about a weasel who fell in love with a handsome young man. Aphrodite granted the weasel the ability to transform into a beautiful woman so she could marry him. However, during their wedding feast, the weasel-bride chased after a mouse running by, revealing her true nature.

Ms. Weasel: LavenderGirl picked ex-MLB All-Star Ron Hunt on 5 July at 12:59 am. He passed on 17 July. Is he not famous enough? He holds the MLB season record for hit by pitches.

Please resolve this.

I have no idea who he is. If you tell me he’s sufficiently famous, I’ll ponder it, but I don’t do sports in any way, shape or form.

Aelf, that video is gold.

Yabbut thsse sports figures have been winners:

John Wooden
Seve Ballesteros
Harmon Killebrew
Joe Paterno
Johnny Pesky
Alex Karras
Yogi Berra
Muhammad Ali
Arnold Palmer
Bobby Bowden
Len Dawson
Pele

ISTM there are many fields where someone could be well–known to millions all over the world – but be unknown to the vast majority of people. Or forgotten: a common condition of the very old, whom we have come to focus on.

IMO Ron Hunt qualifies; but then I’ve picked numerous “celebrities” whose “fame” is narrow (opera singers, scientists, criminals, beauty queens, and some very old athletes), so I have an ax to grind.

LavenderGirl presumably thought so. It’s her pick; she can argue for it.
