Yeah we have Nextdoor here in the US. In fact it’s one of the few social media sites that I’m on. It has its uses – getting recommendations, getting rid of stuff, finding out the details of very local stuff – but it’s also full of dumbassery. It’s eye opening and a bit disconcerting to read the comments and realize just how dumb and incapable of coherent writing some of your neighbors are (they walk among us…)

Having moved back to Nashville from CA it’s interesting how certain topics on ND trigger excessive internet stupidity and how they vary from region to region – in CA it was anything to do with homeless or illegals while in Nashville it’s property taxes or hunting. Fireworks and any kind of traffic-related construction always bring the stupidity.

Part of the issue is how ND selects the posts that it sends you in the digest. It chooses the ones most likely to get you to click through – not the most recent, relevant, or even local. So you posts with a lot of comments about an accident that happened 3 days and 12 miles away. Also the summary usually cuts of the critical part of the post so you have to click through to see any details.

And on the site itself there’s no way to just see posts in chronological order. So you always get recent stuff mixed in with stale posts from up to two week before.
These are all deliberate choices by Nextdoor.

We have at least one Dead Pool winner: steve picked Violet Hensley on 27 June, and she passed on 7 August. His sixth win (but his last was in DP 58).

But LavenderGirl’s pick Ron Hunt passed on 17 July (aged 109).

On Nextdoor there is a “Nearby” button you can click to show only your local posts.

I find Evri particularly irritating. The first message is always “We’ve got your package.” They then take anything from 1 to 7 days to deliver it, so what they really mean is “We’ve got your package. We’ll deliver it when we get around to it”.

seems there’s pretty stiff competition for dumbest thing on the internet so adding one more is just fine.

We have Nextdoor in the US &, from what you’ve said, it’s no better.

Had Nextdope for a bit and found it somewhat useful/entertaining until a local breaking victim posted a picture, taken with their internal security system, in THEIR LIVING ROOM, of the criminal perp….

And the designated volunteer nannies proclaimed posting said picture was a violation of the perp’s RIGHT TO PRIVACY! and took the picture down with the requisite admonition to the victim not to do such horrid evil things to the poor perp….

At which point I cancelled my participation after posting/ noting the response of the monitors was ridiculous.
I’m sure that post did about as well as a quarter of my observations to the Daily Fail, where I may have my own personal censor 😁

That was probably 6 or so years ago. I ain’t missed it.

And yes, I realized many of my neighbors are flocking idiots.

I had Nextdoor for a while, but it became clear it was an echo chamber for the leftist swill so I dropped it.

@stoaty — I knew who Hensley was, and she was very much a slebrity in country music, and for more than just surviving a long, long time. Make of that what you will.

Ron Hunt, though, I never heard of him.
