Or I could do this

You can also set up a plane tracker on a Pi. Pi3 and up will do it. Instructions here.

Flightradar24 will even give you all the gear for free, plus a paid account, but you have to swear to leave it running all the time and somehow get the antenna outside with a clear view. Since a paid account is something stupid like $15 a year, I shan’t.

We do watch the planes a lot. There are many interesting amateur flights in our area, plus the occasional Spitfire flyover (we even had a Vulcan bomber go straight over our house once!). But mostly we watch the tracker planes and helicopters go ’round and ’round the Channel, spotting illegals.

They know who’s coming, how many and when. We all know that. What we don’t know is…WHY?

That is the question, and we may never know the answer. *coughreplacementpopulationcough*

When you realize they’re also spotting protest groups the WHY becomes to route the illegals away from them.

(yeah. I'm going to write)

(oooo! you have a website?)

Beware: more than one link in a comment is apt to earn you a trip to the spam filter, where you will remain -- cold, frightened and alone -- until I remember to clean the trap. But, hey, without Akismet, we'd be up to our asses in...well, ass porn, mostly.
