We the Weasels…

patrioticweasel.jpg

Yeah, the Fourth of July is not usually one of my big holidays. Too damn hot for me. But this year, it’s downright chilly around here. This has been the coldest Summer ever, so far. If it keeps up like this, they’ll have to talk about it — whether they have their hearts set on a warming trend or not.

Anyhoo, I’ve just finished a steak and a baked potato and slaw and a beer. The beer was British, which didn’t seem quite right, but it’s my favorite. Bite me, King George! Lush that I am, I never drink in the daytime, so I feel quite naughty. Lookit me! Drinking a beer! Before five!

Now for a nap. God bless America! (I said that just to confuse Dawn. And I didn’t get hit by lightning or any

Happy napping, smoking crater where Weasel used to be.

I’m on my way to the in-laws for a cook out, where I plan to drink the booze of others and embarrass myself and those who care about me.

Then…FIREWORKS!

One of our ForeWeasels. (sniff) I always get choked up when I see one of the Fathers of our country.

We have a nice, social collection of neighbors here: I just have to walk across the street for all the food and drink I will need. And home is just a short stumble away.

As I have posted elsewhere – and in all seriousness:

I can haz life.
I can haz liberty.
I can haz happiness.

So I is be hazzing already all that is really important.

…And I am very, very grateful.

Watch it with the “cool” references, Weazy…it’ll bring “them” out of the woodwork. 🙂

Happy Independence Day, folks. Hope everybody has fun and stays safe.

That image makes me feel so patriotic. 🙂 Makes me wanna break out into song…

Our weasel ’tis of thee
Schweet mink so whiskery
Of thee I sing.

Stoats, weasels, eyes so wide
Where shiny stuffs reside
And feh-heh-reh-ets’ gnawing pride
Let squeaking ring.

And who can forget the old classic:
Oh beautiful, for squeaking cries
And stoaty nips of pain.
For poingin’ ferrets’ travesties
About the sofa’s stain.

A weasel kit! A weasel kit!
Done shed his fur on me!
And crowned my good red jacket’s hood
With lovely weasel pee!

God Bless the U.S.A.* everyone!

Wow Shuko… we are so not worthy!
Between you and McGoo and Paine, it’s like going to one of Mary Shelly’s parties just being here! I sense the birth of a new generation of poets……..

Now my humble attempt to add to the stack.

I was born on the 5th of July so I’m just a regular guy.
But sometimes I like to pretend that it was a bit earlier when
the stork dropped me out of the bright blue sky.

That way I would have been the son of legendary men
instead of just your ordinary-nobody guy.
I’d have got a small tattoo or maybe even two
of an American Flag waving in the sky

And when I strutted by, all the girls would sigh,
“There goes an extraordinarly handsome fellow”
An American brave and true – Purely Red and White and Blue –
Without even the tiniest streak of yellow

I’d drive a big fast Car, and smoke the best cigars
and always be impecably dressed.
A patriot’s son through and through; one of the special few
with whom the girls would be throughly impressed!

Yeah, being born on the 5th of July makes me just a regular guy.
And not one whose life is fated by the Gods.
I’m just one of the huddled masses no one notices when he passes
Not lucky enough to have beat the odds.

And of course I can’t blame Dad… can’t really get too mad
that September was too damn hot for making whoopie on the sly.
So they waited a few days, but I’m the one who pays
Cause I was born – too late – on damn’d 5th of July.
