On her last day in office, Nancy Pelosi crashed my new computer

Oh, man. I’d been working all afternoon on a video, when the software crashed. Hard.

I’d load the program, it would sit there for ten or fifteen seconds. Then Windows would pop up and say, “there’s something wrong with this thing — seeya!” and shut it down.

I guess it’s an improvement on the Blue Screen of Death. I mean, the program didn’t crash anything but itself. But it sure was off-pissing.

Anyhow, I finally figured it out. There was something in the Nancy Pelosi folder that was freaking it out. When I moved the folder out of the default spot, it worked again.

Spooky.

I wanted to do a lot more with this, but spent most of my free time trying to fix the computer instead. Still, here’s my little goodbye to Nancy Pelosi on YouTube.

G’bye, Nan!

Did you watch the presser? Does she always have difficulty speaking? She seemed almost drunk-talking.

Watcha using for your video editing software? Any webplaints about it? But then again, Windows 7 IS still Windows, so some of that is to be expected. And it may just have had a badly upset stomach due to being around Ms. Pelosi. I understand she has made MANY people want to hurl…

Christ, did any of you catch her speech while turning over the gavel? FFS, it was like watching LARRY FLINT wax poetic about how wonderful he is for his lifelong crusades AGAINST Drug Abuse, Beastiality and FOR teen abstinance and modesty…..

And it had just about as much believability…… :puke:

Pinnacle. I had Adobe Premiere at work, which I cordially hated.

Pinnacle looks like Premiere, but actually works the way you’d expect it to. For consumer software, it’s pretty good. Occasionally hinky, but video is tough on computers.

Our video staff had Avid gear, which now owns Pinnacle.

With 6 cores, you shouldn’t even be warming your computer up. Or did you short yourself with 32 bit Windows 7 or less than 8 GBytes of RAM?

And now, the SWEETEST note a Speaker of the House has evah sent to a Senate Majority Leader…… 🙂

“Senators Reid, Durbin, Schumer, Murray and Stabenow:

Thank you for reminding us – and the American people – of the backroom deal that you struck behind closed doors with ‘Big Pharma,’ resulting in bigger profits for the drug companies, and higher prescription drug costs for 33 million seniors enrolled in Medicare Part D, at a cost to the taxpayers of $42.6 billion.

The House is going to pass legislation to repeal that now. You’re welcome.

– Speaker-Designate John Boehner’s Press Office”

Actually, you can see from some of the photos that she hasn’t had time to keep up an adequate Botox regimen.

That’s because she’s been forced to have her nose shortened much more frequently, due to a significant increase in the brazenness of her lies.

And don’t worry, cracked out Pelosi will be rearing her ugly insane head frequently and often. Boehner farts, she’ll pop in front of a camera the way they did Bush. Hopefully he will whack her with that gavel hard.

God, I love an Ace link. It makes my sitemeter go WHIZZZZZZZ.

You wound me, Mark. I got fully 8G and 64-bit Professional, on the theory that you should spec any new computer high enough to make your eyes water.

Somebody on the Pinnacle forums has just told me that storing project files anywhere but the default location will cause problems. That strikes me as a serious design flaw, but <shrug>.

Heh! The office IT staff is surveying for the next round of upgrades. I told them I wanted a box so fast that cryogenics are needed for cooling. That earned me a glare or two….

This thing is so very sweet, JeffS. I’ve been limping along with ancient tech, like, forever. The combination of multi-core processor and Windows 7 is just made for the way I use a computer — lots of hefty stuff open at once, hopping back and forth.

The combination of short attention span and great hoggy graphics programs is hell on a computer.

Comment from JeffS

Yeah, I’m with you, Sweasel. Most of my machines run XP, but I have a new one with Windows 7. I gotta admit, as much as I load up the new one, I’ve had very few problems, and then only with a couple of legacy programs. I maxed out everything on this box — RAM, hard drive, graphics — but I’ve had a LOT of apps open on it, and virtually no issues.

Not so with XP.

Comment from Mark Matis

With that combo it sounds like an app problem instead. And it appears you independently confirmed that from the forums. That’s one of many REALLY nice things about the Intraweb. LOTS of sources to find out what works and what doesn’t. Of course, one DOES need to be aware of the fanboies throwing rocks at each other, but they are usually fairly easy to identify and ignore. Sorta like one doesn’t need to read too much by Maureen Dowd or Paul Krugman to know where THEY lie and decide whether they are worth your time. Or Janet Napolitano or Eric Holder or Nancy Pelosi or…

See? I CAN tie this back to your original concept!

Most of the big players make sure their own forums are neat and tidy and include people who know what they’re talking about and respond quickly.

Except Wacom. When I loaded my tablet driver, it convinced my new machine it’s a tablet PC. Whenever I go to put in a password or something, this stupid dialogue box pops up hoping to read my handwriting. Been waiting for ages to hear some feedback on that.

Awesome vid, Sweazie. But like some undead zombie from a Chuck Norris vid, she will rise again.

I just read that herself will be the first dem to join in the reading of the Constitution. I’ll expect her to burst into flames if she actually tries to mouth the words.

One of the last posts in this link:
http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/63640-wacom-tablet-driver-not-found-2.html
mentions a “Tablet PC Input Service” in msconfig. Maybe disabling that would be worth a try?

Comment from S. Weasel
Time: January 6, 2011, 6:10 pm

I’ve already tried disabling it at start-up. I’ve just tried disabling that as a running service, but it’ll have to wait for a natural reboot to see if it works.

I can, of course, uninstall the whole thing, but then I lose fine control of my tablet.

First piece of software I’ve ever encountered (that wasn’t part of the OS) that not only doesn’t have a quit button of any kind, but can’t be killed as a running process in the task manager.

My new laptop is more modest than Stoaty’s rig (core i3, 4 gb ram), but I’m very pleased with the processor performance. I’ve come closer to maxing out the ram than the processor, even running VirtualBox with a 64bit Ubuntu guest.
