Yep. Here it is.

Davem123 speculated in the Dead Pool thread that the White House would shortly commemorate the passing of Maya Angelou (1928-2014) with a photo of himself. Yep.

Though it’s at the end of the entry, not the beginning. And it’s not the soulful “Barack Obama has a sad” picture I was expecting.

You know, I’m going to stop right there before I say unkind things about the departed. Flights of angels sing thee, etcetera.

The odious Angelou and her rancid writings were the ugly interweaving of white guilt, pro-black racial favoritism, post-modern pseudo-literature, and an enthusiasm for seeing just how much she could get away with and not be called a fraud.

There. I’ve got no problem with saying unkind things about the dead.

I hate bad poetry. And the archtypal “hooker with a heart of gold”.

I just didn’t want to put that shit in the main post.

Re. the photo: Appropriately somber? Check.

She’s actually the focus (especially with the medal)? Check.

Gets a pass from me.

Re. her poetry: Agreed. Can’t stand it. Not that she’s worse than the average poet – it’s normal for the class.

Whole generations of little British schoolkids have been brainwashed with this crap.

If you ever wonder why young Brits spout the rubbish about America that so many of them do… there’s your answer.

Maya now has bit the dust
And all her medals begin to rust
Cry not, friend, it is no matter
For Maya’s kids are getting fatter

And aren’t we all happy to hear that she lived in an 18 room home on some NC university campus. Poet in residence or some such. How special is she?

I have to admit this does show more class than I expected. Clearly someone at the White House took a moment and put at least some degree of thought into selecting an appropriate photo.

I wonder where the hell they’ve been up to now?

Anybody have her in the dead pool? I denounce myself.

At least it’s not just another picture of Barky with a hot-dog in his mouth. Still, it should be Putin putting that medal around her neck.

You don’t have to say bad things about the departed. She might have been a really bad poet but she never once apologised for or was ashamed of having been a prostitute. She fiercely resisted the negative characterisation of sex workers, and the attempts to downplay that part of her own history. That was a positive thing.
