So I finished Mass Effect 3. Everyone complains about the ending. Frankly, I’m not at all sure I understood the ending. Well, endings…there are variations depending on choices you make. I think I might have wiped out all life on earth maybe. Um…sorry?

I didn’t hate the ending. I hated the game. I mean, the gameplay mechanics were okay. But you spend Mass Effect 1 and 2 assembling this great team of aliens to help you. You get to know them, deal with their personal problems (mostly by way of extreme violence), get attached to them.

So I assumed they’d be your posse for game three. Nope. Nearly all of them die early on, or tell you they’ve got other, more important things to do.

I have a terrible feeling the game designers thought they were making literature. High art these days means huge downer.

I’m lazy, so I’m just going to laugh at the “with a colon on either side” trope.

The thing that bugged me about ME3 was that most of the game felt like a sappy, overwrought farewell tour.

The whole premise of the game is that you’ve got to hurry, hurry, hurry to save the galaxy, but yet you take the time for a teary goodbye to everyone and everything you’ve ever met in the game. It was a bit jarring.

I still think the series is one of the best I’ve played, but 3 is definitely a weak link.
