I just heard on the BBC that 300,000 people have signed a petition to try to keep Trump out of the UK. Apparently Britian thinks that mean people are more dangerous than Terrorists.

While I don’t think Trump’s idea is practical or even (if faith-based rather than nationality-based) legal, I don’t think it should be just dismissed out of hand as ‘stupid’ or even ‘wrong’. The President is supposed to try to protect America from “all enemies foreign or domestic”. I don’t think it can be argued objectively that banning new immigration from countries where Islamist redicalism is strong would not make the country safer. Further, I don’t think it can be objectively argued that -in a system where not every one who wants to immigrate to America can be permitted to come, that America needs more Syrians, or Iraqi’s, or Syrians. I don’t think it can be honestly said that they have any particular special right to come to the U.S. Wouldn’t the long term interests of the country be served just as well by immigrants from other countries?
That is – what benefit is there to our country in admitting people from these regions?

I know that this will sound heartless, but there should be a dispassionate discussion of these points. No one will listen though. I feel like Winston Churchill arguing that the heavy guns of WWI should be saved because they’ll be needed again. No one wanted to believe it was true, but he turned out to be right…

I sincerely hope that you have a great time. I remember hearing Steeleye Span from time to time at various after-hours parties in my misspent younger days, along with a wide variety of other bands most of which are long gone now.

Sweas, you have my absolute envy. We once drove across the state to see/hear Maddy Prior when she was touring solo, but have never had the chance to hear the whole band. If you tell us that they did “Montrose” I will be inconsolable.

Hope the concert was great–they are an incredible band.

Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.

Please don’t take too much notice of the ridiculous petition. Apparently it stands at around 400,000 this morning (according to the BBC which is, of course, acting as its recruiting sergeant).

If you rounded-up all the communist loons and Islamic nutcases who signed it… well, we’d be a much happier country, for one thing 🙂

We need a badger to clean out the nasties in Washington.
